184. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of December 3, 1906. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show is thoroughly satisfactory, every act except one made good for all that was expected of it. The only trouble is there is a little too much good material for one bill; some of them go on so early as to be wasted. Scott & Whaley. Colored comedians. These men are all right for an early spot, at the salary. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Wm. LaBelle. This fellow does an act that is all right in the 3-a-day section. Can't, by any stretch of the imagination, put him in any better spot, but he is all right for what we look for. 13 min. open in 3, close in 1, 3 shows. Fitzgerald & Trainor. Singing, dancing and piano playing. The comedian is not very funny and their best work is their dancing and comedy piano work. This is a good 3-a-day act also, but I would not want to recommend it for 2 shows or for anything better than to open the show in a 2-a-day house. 14 min. open in 3, close in 1, 3 shows. Chas. Bradshaw & Co. This is the act that is somewhat disappointing. The theme of the sketch is an exceedingly good one, but has not been well developed, as a consequence it is only funny in spots. It is well played by Mr. Bradshaw and his company is competent. I consider the salary they are getting surely all that it is entitled to. If there was to be any change in the salary it would be "decrease" rather than "increase" in my estimation. 25 min. full stage, 2 shows. Meredith Sisters. This is a very beautiful act, excellently staged and produced. With a couple of other singers of ability it would be a headline feature. Even as it is, they make a big hit, altho I am inclined to believe that the act is overpaid, altho as salaries go, not greatly so. 17 min. open and close in 1, 2 shows. Willy Zimmermann. Well-known act which went exceedingly well here, particularly so because of the impersonation of the late D. W. Reeves which he introduced for local purposes, at our request. The man's work is artistic, but he is inclined to drag the act out too long which report has been made by one or two of the other houses. 28 min. open in 2, with "center arch" close in 1, 2 shows. O'Brien & Havel. In their well-known act "Clicks & Ticks" which went- to my surprise - as strong as ever before; still I believe they ought to be made to get a new act before coming around again. 25 min. full stage, 2 shows. Lew Sully. Well-known monologuist, who made a hit. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows. The Finneys. Swimmers and Divers. This act is well known no doubt to everybody, so description is unnecessary other than to say it is a great novelty and will prove a drawing feature, I am sure. Last night they closed the show and didn't get on the stage until ten minutes past ten; however they held everyone in their seats until they left the tank - amid great applause. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Lillian Jaynard. Singing comedienne. This woman has a dainty personality, fair voice, and gets away with three songs in good style. On a pinch she could be depended upon to go on in a fairly important spot. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows.
