236. (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of Jan. 14, 1907. La Tour Sisters. On at 1 o'clock, 10 min, in 1; 3 shows. Rather an ordinary sister act; girls look fairly well, but do noting above the commonplace. Would not care to recommend the act for anything better than a number two spot in the continuous houses. I honestly think the girls are better suited to burlesque, and feel they would make a hit with one of the wheel shows. Alpha Trio. On at 1.10, 12 min, full stage; 3 shows. An excellent 3-a-day act, in fact I think that they would make good in an early spot on any bill. The young man of the trio is one of the best hoop-rollers I have ever seen and does a lot of very novel stuff. Nora Kelly. On at 1.22, 9 min, in 1; 3 shows. "The Girl from Dublin". Rather a pleasing personality, but only a fair voice. She has distinguished herself this week, however, by jumping in at a moment's notice and playing the maid's part in the Simon & Gardner act exceedingly well, so well that Mr. Simon wishes her to go with the act permanently. She gave absolutely a perfect performance Monday afternoon, as far as her lines went, and has improved t every show since. Brazil & Brazil. On at 1.31, 11 min, full stage, 3 shows. An excellent 3-a-day act; in fact, could make good for almost any house. Both their acrobatic and comedy work are excellent. The Holdsworths. On at 1.42, 15 min, in 1; 3 shows. As good a 3-a-day act as there is in the business. If the woman had a more agreeable voice they would have been in the 2-a-day class long ago. Treloar & Tempest On at 1.37, open full stage, closing in 1, finish full stage; 13 min in all. Treloar has a novel act of its kind, a great improvement on his old one, could hold a better spot in this bill. His feats of strength are almost all of them new and are performed in an effective manner. McCue & Cahill. On at 2.10, 12 min, in 1. A very good singing act indeed. These boys have fine voices, uptodate selections and make a very neat appearance. They are going very well. Sutcliffe Troupe. On at 2.22, 12 min, full stage. Their first appearance in America. A novelty. Great value for the money. Seven people; five men a youth and a girl, attired in Scottish costumes. They make their entrance with four men playing bag-pipes the boy and girl playing snare-drums, the other man playing the bass-drum with two sticks. They play Highland airs for about 3 min, then four of the men do a very good Highland dance. Next comes some great acrobatic work, something on the style of the tricks the Dollar Troupe formerly did. Much to my surprise they did this without the semblance of a miss, notwithstanding the fact that they were practically just off the steamer. At the finish of their 6 min. of acrobatic work, they take their pipes and drums and march off. I think this act will make good everywhere. Our audiences are seemingly delighted with it.
