247 241 HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM E.F. ROGERS January 21st, 1907 --ooOoo-- COMMENT: The show reads excellent and plays fairly well. In its entirety it is good, but not as strong as we have been having due to the lack of comedy. Some few left as soon as Joe Welch's name was announced, and he is far from being a headline feature. GARTELLE BROTHERS: Roller Skating. Two young men, working white and blackface. Act consists of funny falls, acrobatic stunts, skating, dancing, etc. Just about get by as an opener. 11 min. in one FITZGIBBON-McCOY TRIO: Presenting:-"A Mischievous Brother." Rather crude. Alright for the gallery. Received some few laughs. Made good, however, in this place. 17 min. - full stage-closed in one DAINTY FOUR: Four young ladies in a pleasing singing and dancing number. Girls are English and give a splendid exhibition of soft-shoe dancing. Act is rather quiet, altho thoroughly alright for an early place. 10 min.-full stage MELVILLE ELLIS: This man's selections were a way-off to-day. Singing some old songs, which have been done to death. He proved a dismal failure until he appealed to the gallery. After the boys assisted him in whistling, he won out with some little applause. 17 min. in one EDWARD CONNELLY & CO: Presenting Geo. Ade's sketch:-"Marse Convington." An his act down to about 15 minutes. Rather a disappointment and fell short of being a headline attraction. Julian Rose and Ben Welch have hime best a mile. 23 min. in one BELLONG BROTHERS: Cycling Equilibrists. An excellent act in its class. Not the sort of an act desired here to close the show. All of their work was strongly applauded. The work rather slow. The best part of the house left before they finished. 13 min.-full stage. KINETOGRAPH: "The Hand of the Artist" Excellent "The Tramp Dog" Very good
