246. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of January 28, 1907. Charles Lovenberg, Mgr. The show made good throughout; fell down slightly in a couple of places, but nothing serious. Houdini evidenced again that he is a tremendous drawing-card and we can look forward to a repetition of his usual business. Perry Sisters. This act didn't come up to what I expected, by any means. The girls have a novel idea, but have not the ability to bring it out. Has been described before. 18 min. full stage, short close in one, if necessary. 3 shows. Adams & Mack. Comic magic act, fairly good 3-a-day turn. Have their own special drop in 1-1/2. 14 min. 3 shows. Margaret Scott. Miss Scott - for a colored woman - has a very good voice and has had some good instructions. If she didn't paint her hair red and try to make up like a white woman the act would be considerably better. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows. Nettie Carroll. Wire walker. This act disappointed me a little. I had been led to believe that it was an exceptionally good wire act. It is not bad and is very prettily dressed. It just barely escapes being a 3-a-day act, to my mind. 9 min. full stage, 2 shows. Young American Quintette. These people did very well indeed. Nice little act of the kind and their voices, while not great, blend well. They get away in good shape with the class of music they attempt. Little comedy and dancing livens up the act. Thoroughly all right in any spot up to 8.30. 15 min. open in 2, close in 1, of necessary. Could do the entire act in 1, 3 shows. Ferry Corwey. Well-known clown musical act. Made quite a hit this afternoon. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Katie Rooney. Miss Rooney appears first in a grotesque costume, might be likened somewhat to the opening of Katie Barry's act, only better. She sings a couple of comic songs, to good applause, then changes to male attire in imitation of her Father, the original "Pat Rooney," with song and dancing and a little talking. Made a decided hit. Good act for the money. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows. Lind. Female impersonator, principally dancing. This man makes a stunning appearance, has some beautiful costumes and effective scenery, altho the latter is, by no means, new. There is no doubt that everyone thought he was a "woman" until his finale and they seemed to hold their breath in astonishment. The applause was not tremendous, but I am sure he pleased. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Quigley Bros. Irish talking act, in politics, which failed to score very heavily. 17 min. in 1, 2 shows. Marco Twins. Grotesque comedy act, tall man and a dwarf. Excruciatingly funny. Had the audience screaming for eight minutes. Full stage, 2 shows. Kaufmann Troupe. Unnecessary to say that this is the greatest act of its kind in the world. 15 min. full stage, 2 shows. Whitely & Bell. I wonder where these people have been for the last twenty-five years? They rang in a lot of songs and jokes that were old when I went into the business, and I hate to tell when that was. The act is that of a man and a woman, Dutch, woman straight, a little singing and dancing. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Not fit for anything better than opening the show.
