249. Boston Show, Week of Jan. 28, 1907. (Carl D. Lothrop) (Tuesday Jan. 29th) The Pelots. On at 1 o'clock, 13 min full stage, 3 min in 1, 16 min in all; 3 shows. Well-known comedy juggling and acrobatic act. An extra good three-show act, good enough to open in most of the two-a-day houses. Wood Bros. On at 1.10, 9 min, full stage; 3 shows. A corking good Roman ring act, worthy of being played in any house. Well-built fellows, who make a very neat appearance. Wise & Milton. On at 1.25, 20 min, in 1; 3 shows. They prefer to open full stage, but they can do their entire act in 1, as they are doing this week, if necessary. One of those kind of acts that, if it was a little better, it would be very, very good. As it is, it is an excellent act for the money, particularly for the 3 show-a-day houses, on account of the length. Cartelle Bros. On at 1.45, 10 min, full stage. These boys made a very good impression, in fact can be credited with a hit. Their comedy work at the start of the act gets many laughs, while their dance on skates at the finish won them two recalls yesterday afternoon. Wm. Inman & Co. On at 1.55, 18 min, in 1. After the style of Howard & North, but a long way after. I would not care to play this act again. It is draggy and inconsistent. I think it is essentially an act for burlesque houses, and would be a hit in them. McVeigh & Duly. On at 2.13, 17 min, full stage. I regret that I could not use this act an hour later in the bill. There isn't a dull minute in it. The dancing is capital, particularly at the finish, which is very fast. I very much prefer it ti the Gayer & Criski act. Juliette Pierrepont. ON at 2.30, 10 min, in 1. A contralto vocalist, with a very rich, full voice, and an attractive stage presence Her voice, however, is not freaky, and she would never be a sensation. Still, she could go on any bill and make good. Volta. On at 2.00, 24 min in all, 21 min full stage,3 min close in 1. I had worried considerably about this act, owing to the conflicting reports, and I was inclined to doubt the wisdom of the move I made in putting him in for two weeks, after seeing him at Harlem. However, I am now very glad that I have him for two weeks, as he is making a lot of talk, and I think will prove an excellent drawing card. Would put him further down the bill this week if it were possible to do so. Williams & Tucker. On at 3.04, 26 min, full stage. Playing "Skinny's Return". It seems too bad that these people cannot get an act farther away from "Skinny's Finish", for I find that some of our patrons have an idea that it is the same act. However, they are going very nicely, taking three curtains both afternoon and evening yesterday. Miss Williams is as clever as ever, as Mary Ellen Poet. This is a singing act with character changes, and is excellent value for the money I am paying, $70. The opening in their straight songs is a little slow, but when they do their characters, it livens up. Cuts:- Wm. Inman & Co. Spitting on hands. Williams & Tucker. "What the hell". Comment, Rather a peculiar show, but it pleases the audiences better than it does me, seemingly. A strong act in 1 and a full stage act, both of them of the comedy order, in place of a couple of the present acts would improve it immensely.
