10. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of February 11, 1907. (Charles Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show is hardly satisfactory in its entirety, altho some of the acts are really big hits. The early part of the show fell down and sort of put a damper on the rest of it, because of too much singing in that portion of the bill. Cecelia Weston. This girl by no means comes up to what I was led to expect in the way of a singing turn. As far as applause is concerned she could have stopped with one selection. 9 min. in 1, 3 shows. The Sawadas. Man and woman, Japanese jugglers, introducing a couple of little children. Little act that always seems to hold its own in an unimportant spot. 12 min. full stage, 3 shows. May Crawford & Her Johnnies. Another act in which I was misled. I got the impression that she had a couple of boys who did some nice singing with her, and had some good lively songs. As it is, she has a couple of "truck-drivers" without any voices at all and who do some mediocre dancing interspersed with a couple of songs by Miss Crawford. The act is very disjointed, altho Miss Crawford is a very good looking young woman; wears some nice clothes, and who, with some better material and better assistants, would probably get by very well. As it is, I wouldn't recommend the act. 16 min. in 2, can work in 1, 3 shows. Jennings & Renfrew. These two men have an act similar to the Dillon Brothers, other than that they work in blackface. They have several good topical songs; tell a couple of stories; could stand a better place on the bill. 17 min. in 1, 3 shows. Stanton & Modena. Well-known sketch, "For Reform" which went exceptionally well in an easy spot on the bill. 20 min. full stage, 2 shows. Flemen & Miller. Didn't arribve in time to go on the first show. Will report upon them later. Carlotta. This thing to me is something of a "lemon". The Loop makes a big imposing appearance. After a very bombastic speech by the Manager of the act, Carlotta comes out and does a few little dinky bicycle tricks; hardly as good as what she used to do when she did three shows a day. Then she does the Loop-the Loop stunt which makes the people gasp for a minute, and it is all over. I question the value of the act very much. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Irving Jones. Well-known colored comedian who went exceptionally well today. Had considerable new material. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows. Duffin-Redcay Troupe. Well-known casting act; to my mind better than the Lukens. They do more sensational feats than the latter. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. "The" Quartette. Four male vocalists, who made the decided hit of the show. 15 min. in 1, 22 shows. The woman is rather attractive and most of their material is quite new. It is a good 3-a-day act, all right for an early position in the 2-a-day houses. 14 min. in 1, 2 shows.
