FEB. 11, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.BARNS. D'ESTELLE SISTERS:-Dancers-11 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:24. This is a neat little act. The girls did not manage to get much of a hand throughout the act, but got fair applause at finish. Dress becomingly, while not particularly beautiful, are sprightly and dance with grace and skill. Altogether capable of holding an early place, and closed fairly well. THE KEELEYS, Bag-punchers: 13 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:35. This act is quite a surprise as an opener. The paraphenalia is good, and the feats of both boys, one working straight and the other comedy, are interesting and skilful. The gallery especially liked it. Comedy is a little shy, but on the whole it made good. Closed well. LILLIAN ASHLEY, Vocaliste:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:45. Did not hit our audience very strong this afternoon. Too much "child" imitations and her general work is not brilliant. Besides, her voice is unpleasant, and her delivery is not winsome. Her only two hits were old gags that were cuts last week, and had to be cut out of her new act. She may pull up a little stronger later in the week, but with the Monday audience she just about got by. BOB & BERTHA HYDE, Com. Sketch:- 16 min. in 3. 3 shows. On at 7:00. This is a sketch on the Rube and soubrette order. The line of talk is amusing and holds the interest quite well. It is not an act that would hold down a harder spot, but it managed to get by very well. Closed well, with a curtain call. THE BAILEYS, Col. Com:- 14 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:16. These people made good all right. The coon is a born comedian and sings coon songs irresistibly. The girl is a very prettty dancer, and the act is swift and sprightly from beginning to end. Finish was good. HICKMAN BROTHERS, Acro. Com:- 16 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:35. Advance applause. These people are well known on the Circuit. All that need be said is, taht they thoroughly made good. There was constant laughter throughout the act which was genuinely funny and entertaining. Closed big. ARINGS, Balancers:-9 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 7:51. These people are splendid. Their work shows long training and displays great dexterity. The audience liked the work from the first and gave them good hands throughout. Some of their balancing feats are nothing short of phenomenal and almost all their stunts are new. Would make good in a much better spot. VACATION TIME, Musical:-15 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:00. This act was at first a good deal of a disappointment. Laying off for a week did not seem to do the girls any good, and there was a crudeness and rawness about the first presentation that hurt it as a headliner. It was placed at eight o'clock, which is about the best spot it could hold to-day with an audience like ours. In the evening it went better and Tuesday's shows brought it toward concert pitch. It will continue to improve, I am sure. There is fair applause for the various scenes, features and songs--the Garden, Beach, Boardwalk and Surf, latter being a decided novelty and brining a big hand and much talk. However, in its present condition as a topliner, and four women, all of them well costumed and thorouhly expert. Some of their evolutions are marvellous for precision. Makes one of the most finished and beautiful closing acts in the business. KINETOGRAPH:- JULIA AT THE BARRACKS:-Very amusing French film of a girl who masquerades in her soldier-lover's clothes and gets into all sort of trouble. CHAMPAGNE-MAKING:-Interesting and industrial film with a good good finish. Altogether the KINETOGRAPH is up to the standard.
