MARCH 23, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C. E. BARNS POOLE, Magician:- 10 min. in 3. 3 shows. On at 6:40. Poole makes a good presentation and is quite clever with his various tricks which include card-tricks which were new and received a good hand. This makes a fair opener for a continuous house. Closed very well for an act of this kind. HARRY BREEN, Vocalist:-13 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:50. This man is blessed with a good appearance. Whereas his songs are not very brilliant , nor his voice very recommending, he has a humorous way that takes with the audience. Altogether held this spot on the bill. AXTELLE & "HEINIE":- 12 min. F. S. 3 shows. On at 7:03. Axtelle had the misfortune to lose his dog, which handicapped his act very much this afternoon. The understudy canine that he substituted was not up to the requirements. Axtelle's line of talk is rather amusing although too lengthy, but his contortion work is so good that it made the act hold the place acceptably. His tramp costume is very amusing in itself. He works with table and two chairs. Closed well. NORA KELLY, Vocaliste, "Girl from Dublin":- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:15. Very pretty girl without much of a voice. Sang three songs, all of which got a fairly good hand. Her strong Irish brogue seemed to take pretty well with the audience, particuarly the last song which got strong applause and encores. WALDORF & MENDEZ, Acro. Com:- 10 min. F. S. 3 shows. On at 7:30. (Close in 1 for one minute.) Two men, both working eccentric. This is a knock-about act part of which is after the manner of Rossire & Toretto, using tables and chairs, making funny falls, etc. It also includes some good straight acrobatic work that makes it more acceptable than it would otherwise be. The work is swift and pleasing, and the audience liked it. Fair applause throughout, and the close was good. ASHER & PATTERSON, "The Ebony Duo" (colored). 13 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:42. Man and woman. This is a very coon act, as coon acts go. Both work straight. Their line of talk is amusing and their songs are good and the uncommonly pretty face of the octoroon helps to win the audience. Each one of their numbers received good hand. Closed well. Could hold even a better spot. THE THREE ROSES, Musicians:- 1o min. F. S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:55. Advance applause. Three young ladies. This is certainly a very dainty act. It is not very versatile, the young ladies confining themselves to stringed instruments and a little piano work, and a couple of solos with string accompaniment. They are all pretty, making charming appearance, and with the audience from the first. They render their selections with precision and harmony, showing an artistic temperament and long training. They will surely make good with evening audiences. The close in 1 was particularly brilliant. A good act for an early spot in the two-a-day section. GARTELLE BROTHERS, "Skatorialism":- 12 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 8:10. These people are certainly immense. One works straight and the othger eccentric blackface. The act does not consist of very much else than some ridiculous all parts of the house this week. Gabriel is another name for box-office prosperity here. KINETOGRAPH:- BUTCHER'S NIGHTMARE:- A grotesque and yet swift-moving and diverting film. HUGE TREES:- A pleasing travel series. THE GRAFTERS:- A comedy film a little above the standard with some few comical surprises. Altogether the KINETOGRAPH feature is O.K.
