125TH STREET THEATRE CRITICISM E. P. ROGERS April 8th, 1907 MAZUZ & MAZETTE: Acrobatic Comedy. Secured some few giggles with a wee bit of applause. The price we are paying them, they were far from success as an opener. 15 min.--9 min.-full stage-closed in one 5 min THE KEMPS: Colored Entertainers. Men dressed as messenger boy. Both have fairly good voices. Comedy does not amount to much. Finish of the act is on the style of Greene & Werner. Just about got by in this place. 18 min. in one JULES GARRISON & CO: Men and woman, in a Roman travesty, "An Ancient Roman" This act has greatly weakened without Ella Garrison. Does not contain the laughs. Act proved a dismal failure this afternoon. Left the stage with hardly any applause whatever. At the night performance it improved a little. Presume by the end of the week it will develop into an act. 16 min BERNAR'S MANIKINS: First act on the bill that really got any applause. Comparing this man and at the price with Jewell's, it could be classed as a better act. Received applause throughout with fairly good hand on the finish. 16 min KNIGHT BROS. & SAWTELLE: 2 men and a woman. One man works straight, the other eccentric. Act consists of singing and dancing. Comedy is fairly good and the dancing excellent. Pleased immensely. 15 min. in two--closed in one about 5 min EMPIRE COMEDY FOUR: Negotiated this spot in good shape. Compelled to encore several times and finished to big applause. 24 min. in one HOUDINI: This man did his regular act, consisting of freeing himself from the handcuffs, trunk and strait-jacket. All of his work was appreciated with some little applause. Presume he is going to create a lot of talk, as we have quite a number of special features arranged for the week. Finished to big applause. Compelled to take several bows. 31 min KINETOGRAPH: "With a Traveling Menagerie" Very good
