UNION SQUARE CRITICISM----WEEK OF APRIL 15th, 1907. SIDDON BROS.---Straight and comedy. Singing, talking and dancing. Straight man is a corking good dancer, and I think would do much better alone as the comedian [??] a "shine." However it is a really good three show act for the money. 20 minutes in one. TILLIE WHITNEY---Singer and rag Time Piano Player. Another good three show act. Her Piano playing got big applause considering the spot, and she is well worth the money. She is a large, good looking woman, and her singing is not at all bad. Very well dressed. 12 minutes, 2 1/2 short close in one. ELDRIDGE----"The Sand Man." Here is a man who has evidently been overlooked. A big hit, and his pictures are very artistic. Talk good. Neatly dressed, and evidently a westerner. At the price he ought to be "covered." Finishing pictures got two recalls-appropriate music. 12 minutes in one. KEELEY BROS.---Straight and comedy. Bag punching. Another splendid act. The work of these boys is really good, and for a wonder the comedian is funny. Could stand a much better place on the bill. Can highly recommend the act. Paraphernalia good. 12 minutes 2 1/2. HELENA FREDERICK---A "knock out." Sorry I had to put her on so early, but she made a terrific hit. All her songs went well, and were well selected. She certainly is worth her salary from the applause she got here to-day. 13 minutes in one. CHADWICK TRIO----Two women and a man in a crazy sketch that got screams. Not refined by any means, but just the "slap stick," sort of act they like here. The young girl's dancing alone is worth the price of the act. She is great, and the audience went wild over here. Good act. 17 minutes, full stage. Can give a good close in one. ARTHUR WHITELAW---Well known on the circuit, and has some original stuff for a wonder. Very funny, and held up this spot in great shape. This man is a relief after some of the would be monologists I have had lately. 17 minutes in one. COLONIAL SEPTETTE---Two well known for much comment. Usual big hit, and all their numbers got big applause. The special scenery is good and pretty, but new wigs and hats for the men would be in order. 17 minutes, full stage. JULIUS STEGER AND CO. In "The Fifth Commandment." This is an act that we should certainly be proud of, artistically speaking, and I feel sure that the act will more than pay for itself in "talking ads." The idea is new and is splendidly worked out. Mr. Wm. Pascoe as the grandfather is really the star of the act, although Mr. Steger's work is good. His song made a big hit, and his pathos went well, although very "stagy." However the whole act is a welcome innovation, and made a decided sensation. 27 minutes, full stage. JACK NORWORTH---This man did not hold up this spot by any means, and I was terribly disappointed in him. I notice had has made good elsewhere, but may be this place was too hard for him. He went off with about two hands. 22 minutes in one. FOUR BARDS---One of the greatest balancing acts I have ever seen, and made a terrific hit. About the best closing act I have had here. Their work is truly great, and got tremendous applause. 10 minutes, full stage. KINETOGRAPH----Scenes in Pompeii. Good and interesting film. Babys Outing. Very funny. OVERTURE----Piccolo Solo. Sleigh Ride. Hindley. 10 minutes. Big applause. NOTE----Great show from start to finish with one exception. Ought to draw big business. Lindsay Morison.
