(Carl D. Lothrop.) Boston Show, Week of May 20, 1907. (Monday May 20--Night Show) Stereopticon. On at 6.35, 15 min. Showing views of China. Amos. On at 6.50, 15 min in 2, close in 1; 3 shows. He could work entirely in 1, if necessary. An excellent 3-show comedy juggling act; good time and good work. Norton & Russell. On at 7.03, 11 min, full stage; can close in 1, if necessary; 3 shows. A character change act that seems like a novelty, it has been so long since I have seen one like it. Their changes are really great, and if their voices are equal to their character work, they would be holding down 8.30 and 9.00 spots. As it is, their vocal work handicaps them. Lee Bros. On at 7.16, 12 min, in 2; 3 shows. A very good dancing act, with ice-skate and roller-skate work that gives an out-of-the-ordinary element to it. Orchestra. 7.28. No overture. Frances Knight. On at 7.29, 12 min, in 1. I do not think I am drawing a long bow when I state that this girl can sing as well or better than the majority of our $250 and $400 stars, like Bessie Wynn and Julia Sanderson. She has a very winning stage presence, dresses in good taste and is not fifty percent affectation. The man she has singing in the box with her could be greatly improved upon. I would not hesitate to use her as late as 9 o'clock, if necessary. Paul Stephens. On 7.41, 10 min, full stage; 3 shows. An extremely valuable novelty acrobatic act for the money. Another turn that could go on much later in the bill. Le Roy & Woodford. On at 7.51, 16 min, in 1. Better than ever. Le Roy has added quite a lot of new material. I am sorry that I have to use them so early. I think that this act should be corralled for next season, for it has made good in all houses. Knight Bros. & Sawtelle. On at 8.07, 14 min, in 2; with a short close in 1. An extremely good dancing act. May be classed as a hit. I think that they will go even better through the week than they did today. Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy Barry. On at 8.21, 17 min, full stage; short close in 1. Another hit. this act is certainly good value for the money. Barry always keeps it up to date. Musical Avolos. On at 8.38, 12 min, in 1. As good a xylophone act as I know of. Another hit. animal act I have ever looked at. I certainly have never seen an act of the kind make such a hit with an audience. Those present this afternoon and evening simply shrieked at the finish. It will be a pity if this act is allowed to escape us for next season. He is in demand, knows his value and says he will not close a contract until he has been on the Roof several weeks. Kinetograph. On at 10.10, 20 min. "The Boar Hunt", as extremely good film, one of the best we have had this season. "An Unskilful Skater", a very good comic. Cuts:- Le Roy & Woodford. "Raising prices" joke. Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy Barry. "Woodshed" squib. Comment. A corking good show. There is not an act in the 2-a-day section that cannot be scored as a hit, while the 3-a-day people are very much above the ordinary. This show gives better satisfaction than most of the bills with big headliners. The same can also be said of last week's show.
