(2) Gilette & MacFarlane. On at 8.53, 19 min, full stage. Could close in 1, for about 2 min, if necessary. At $350 I would O.K. this act without question, but at four hundred I confess a little disappointment. Miss Gillette seems lacking in magnetism and her voice does not compare with MacFarlane's, so that she seems considerably handicapped by the superior excellence of his voice. I do not wish to give the impression that the act did not make good or will not make good in other houses, for I think anybody is safe in playing it. The costumes worn are very fine, and Miss Gillette's appearance in tights at the finish certainly does not detract from the act. Julius Tannen. On at 9.12, 23 min, in 1. This man was an absolute knock-out today, and I cannot imagine what he would have done with a regular-season audience. The chances are he would have still been on the stage. If possible, I am going to hold him for a second week. Bellong Bros. On at 9.35, 15 min, full stage. Sensational acrobats and cyclists, most of whose stunts are original with themselves. An excellent act and went big today. Elfie Fay. On at 9.50, 13 min, in 1. "The Vivacious 'Comicess'" held this spot in good shape and left them wanting more. Camille Trio. On at 10.03, 7 min, full stage. They do more work in 7 min. than any other comedy bar act does in 12. Went with a shriek. It is almost a pity to use this act to close the show, for it is a sure-fire comedy hit anywhere. Kinetograph. On at 10.10. Showing "The Nearsighted Messenger", fairly good comic film, but somewhat on the stereotyped style of all those that have to do with a bicycle-rider. "Cohen's Fire Sale", a comedy picture that in my opinion could be much improved, as the idea is not carried out as well as it might be. Cuts:- D'Elmar Bros. Dispense with corsets. Comment. A very good summer show indeed. A strong headline act in place of Gillette & MacFarlane and a better act in place of Le Fevre & St. John would make a show good enough for almost any week.
