PHILADELPHIA SHOW. AUGUST 26, 1907. C. E. BARNS. Joe Cook & Brother. The Juggling Kids. 12 min. F. S. 3 shows. One works eccentric and the other straight. Work with table, rings, indian-clubs, bouncing balls etc. Makes a very good opener. Received good applause for their work. although their comedy is a little shy. Closing feat got a good hand. BROWNING & LA VAN. Talking comedians and Parodists. 18 min. in 1. 3 shows. Two Men. One works straight and the other an eccentric Hebrew, afterwards Italian. Their line of talk is weak. The Parodies are good but only fairly well rendered. Just about got by in No. 2 in the 3-a-day section. Not an act to be recommended for extended booking. WEBSTER & CARLTON. In a Comedy Playlet "Her Beau". 14 min. F. S. 3 shows. This is rather a pleasing little sketch, of a country boy's proposal to a city girl. It is a little over-acted on the part of Carlton, but Miss Webster is pretty and a good actress, and her work saves the act. There were scattered laughs throughout. Leads up to a very fair close. ANDERSON & GOINES. Polite Colored Performers. 17 min. in one. This is one of the very best coon duos in vaudeville. It will go down the line for balance of the week. Their singing is excellent, and Giubes dancing and comedy is very funny. Would be the applause hit of any vaudeville bill. Closed with a big hand. Two curtain calls. GARDNER & STODDARD. In Vaudeville Frivolities. 20 min. F. S. Close in 1. These people won the house right from the start. Their work consists of burlesques on vaudeville acts, -- all very funny, and kept the audience in good humor. Gardner is an excellent musician, playing the piano, cornet and bells, very well indeed. His antics at the piano are highly diverting. Closed in 1 with Miss Stoddard's burlesque on the country girl, which is keenly humorous. This is an act that would go well anywhere. Closed very strong. CLARA BALLERINI. Daring spanish Trapeze Artiste and Equilibrist. 9 min. F. S. A very beautiful woman, charmingly costumed with a continental finish. Opens her act with a Spanish dance, and proceeds to her work on the trapeze which consists mainly of the equalibristic feats, and very expert at that, some singing and mandolin playing. Received good applause and closed strong. MASON & SHANNON. In their Unique Creation "Astrology". 17 min. in 1. A very original act in 1. Represents a house-top in the city at dawn. One man works straight and the other eccentric German comedian. The line of talk is amusing and kept the house in good tittering. The finish in which they avail themselves of a stereoptican, which shows pictures of Dave Warfield, Abe Lincoln, Bryan and Roosevelt on the drop, bot a big "kind applause" hand as a close. This act makes good on account of its originality and humor. WILLIAM HAWTREY & COMPANY in the Dramatic Sketch "Compromised". 25 min. F. S. This is an excellent dramatic sketch, admirably played. The theme is the old one, that of a wife marrying the second time, when a former worthless husband, supposed to be dead, turns up in Enoch Arden style. The complications which arise upon his reappearance ends in a tragedy in which the latter is killed, and brings the play to a climax that satisfies everybody. Mr. Hawtrey, in the first part of the act, is a very No. 1. A Splendid travel film. No. 2. Such an excellent series of a kind so difficult to obtain that it was held over another week. No. 3. An amusing comedy film. ZANO. Magician. 13 min. in 1. A little more clever than the ordinary magic act, but he is handicapped by a lack of the English vernacula. Received considerable applause. would make a good opener. MAY SISTERS. "The Red Domino Girls". These little girls are very young and prettily costumed, and will doubtless develop into something later. At present, however, they cannot do any more than fill a very obscure spot in the 3-a-day section, as they lack development of voices and dancing skill as well as stage experience, and are not strong enough to be booked for a house like this. Not to be recommended for extended booking.
