242. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., week of September 12, 1907. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show this week is not satisfactory at all. There is very little of strength in it, the big feature act by no means realizing what we had hoped for it. Louis Guertin. [Jumper?]. A very good 3-a-day act and one fully qualified to open the show in the smaller 2-a-day houses. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Browning & LeVan. Two men, one straight the other Jew and Italian. These men are very amateurish in their manner; have some parodies that are coarse to say the least. An act that I wouldn't want to play again unless it showed material improvement. 13 min. in 1, 3 shows. Conlin & Steele. This act starts off in a lively, snappy manner, but does not hold out the promises at the beginning. I have known Miss Steele to do some good dancing, but it seems to have been eliminated in this act, that is any great amount of it. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Zarrell Bros. Hand and head balancers, muscular work. A mighty good act considering that they do 3 shows and plenty good enough to hold a more important spot on the bill. The only thing of any great merit in our 3-a-day section this week. 9 min. full stage, 3 shows. Rich Duo. Put in to take the place of Miles & Rickards who disappointed. Man and woman, usual singing, dancing and talking and a little acrobatic work by the man. A most ordinary act and by no means good enough for this spot on the bill. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Griff. Burlesque, clown juggler. The juggling in Mr. Griff's act is the least portion of it. In fact he practically does no juggling at all being almost entirely burlesque on the same. He talks all through the act and has some awfully bright stuff, considering he is an Englishman especially. In the afternoon he went very strong indeed and at night went quite well also. I consider him a valuable act to play and really believe that were he to follow a straight juggling act on the same bill that his value would be enhanced. 15 min. opening full stage with fully 5 min. in one, 2 shows. Edward Clark & 6 Winning Widows. I never could see much excuse for this act being in the business. The girls are pretty and well dressed but have very little ability and there is no novelty to the act whatever. It's value to this house is about $150. 35 min. open full stage and close in 1, 2 shows. Bert Levy. Artist and caricaturist. This is unquestionably the hit of the bill. It is a mighty good act and worth featuring over anything we have in this week's show. Description is unnecessary as it has played most of the houses. 17 min. full stage, 2 shows. Can increase or shorten his act. May Tully & Co. If any actress ever brought more atrocious support than this woman it must be Fred Walton for I never saw anything worse, in the way of acting, than the supporting company of both of these acts, neither am I very strongly impressed with Miss Tully herself, or her sketch. At two spots during the action where she gives her imitations and when she has the buncome dramatic speech at the finish, she goes strongly and on this last speech she gets her big recall, but when you consider that twenty minute waste of time to get five minute result I very much question how much good an act is. I do not always figure that the NOTE: I want to go on record as stating that I did not personally book a single act in this show excepting Palfrey & Hoefler and the 3-a-day stuff. At the same time I don't want to have the impression go out that I am simply finding fault, because of that condition. I only want to justify myself.
