(Carl D. Lotrhop) Boston Show, Week of May 25, 1908. (Monday May 25--Afternoon Show.) Overture. 1.30, 9 minutes. Musical Craigs. On at 1.39, 10 min full stage, 3 min close in 1; 13 min in all; 3 shows. A standard with us, good up to 2.15 and 8. Meeh International Trio. On at 1.52, 12 min, full stage; 3 shows. A return engagement for them as we have gotten considerable notoriety for them through a suit in court and a couple of challenges. Outside of this the act is really great value for $100-125. Good enough to open almost any show and can easily close in the smaller cities. Werden and Taylor. On at 2.04, 12 min, in 1. As Miss Taylor has recently become Mrs. Lothrop, any criticism from me would hardly be considered unprejudiced. Captain George Auger and Company, playing "Jack, the Giant Killer". On at 2.16, 22 min, full stage. Can do a close in 1 for 3 or 4 minutes, if necessary. There is no better attraction in vaudeville than this for the youngsters. It is simply ideal for a holiday week. It went very well this afternoon with the old as well as the young. This is its first visit to this house; we should be pleased to play it a return. Netta Vesta. On at 2.38, 8 min, in 1. A pretty and dainty-appearing girl, who sings popular songs most acceptably. Could hold a better spot. Mason, Keeler and Company. On at 2.46, 19 min, full stage. Playing their old sketch, "Hooked By Crook", as I thought "A Hero" a trifle rough for our audiences. Scored a hit, although the "company" was playing his part for the first time. Joe and Sadie Britton. On at 3.06, 11 min, in 1. These clever colored folks are favorites in Boston, and made their customary success, Joe's dancing going particularly well. Wormwood's Animals. On at 3.16, 14 min, full stage. With more attention to paraphernalia and dressing, Wormwood would have as good an animal act as anybody could ask for. The finish, with the bicycle race between three monks, is a knock-out. He can give as much time, up to 25 min, as is needed. He was scheduled for 20 min. here, but was obliged to cut out some today on account of two of his best monks getting loose and amusing themselves by taking to the flies. Fred Niblo. On at 3.30, 17 min, in 1. His first visit to this house in over two years. Made good with his customary bright line of talk, some of it new. Held this spot in a thoroughly satisfactory manner. 87 "Scotty" Provan. On at 6.45, 15 min, in 1. Attired in Scotch costume, he does various violin imitations and sings a Scotch comic song. He is O.K. as a 3-a-day now, and I think will develop into an act that can hold the number two spot in any of the smaller houses. Cuts:- Capt. Auger and Co. Thumb to nose. Slapping girl on thigh during dance. Spitting in glass while wiping it. Mason and Keeler. Requested to eliminate the "damns" in their act. "A Night On a House Boat". Told to cut "damns" and mention of "Three Weeks". Fred Niblo. Asked to eliminate "Egg" and "Ten Children" squibs. Comment. This show is all right for the money invested. Plenty good enough for this time in the season, when the best vaudeville show that we could put together would not do better than a fair week in Boston.
