Report on Columbus Show week Sep 7th. -- 08. W. W. Prosser. LABELLA TRIO: 1 man 2 women (1 man made up as woman) in an acrobat[ic] and gymnastic act introducing numerous feats in hand balancing and feet juggling work. -- Nothing done was new but they got by fairly well and answered the purpose for an opener. 8 minutes, Palace in 4. SHEWBROOK & BERRY: Two women one impersonating a boy. -- The one doing the girl of the act is very small and has really a surprising voice for volume for a person so small. She is really the act the male member assuming a sort of a "I don't have to do this for a living" air and this fact together with a bad nasal tone sort of grates on ones nerves. The little girl works very hard however and injects some comedy burlesque work that seemd to be well liked. It took them quite a little while to catch on but they finally did and finished satisfactorily. 12 minutes olio in one. FIVE MUSICAL MCLARENS: Four girls one young man who work in brass. one girl sings a song and has a fairly good voice. they do ensemble xylophone work. the smallest member of the quintet does some good work as a trap drummer, in fact it is quite a versative musical act but seems to have something wrong which to my way of thinking is because of a sort of amateur manner they possess. They make a good appearance and none of their work was poor but for some reason or other they did not seem to catch on. At the finish they managed to win a call or two. I think they will go better later in the week. C. D. F. 16 minutes. JOHNNIE McVEIGH & COLLEGE GIRLS: One man four girls in singing, dancing and comedy act, special drop in 1 1/2. The act is lively and well presented, not havings dull moment, but the house was lukewarm toward it for some unaccountable reason. -- Another act that I believe will grow in favor. -- My audience seemed to be taking a nap this afternoon. 20 minutes. HOMER LIND & CO: "The Opera Singer" suggesting the Music Master, Her Last Rehearsal, Back To The Woods etc. Opens with bare stage. Lind, The Opera Singer, enters to rehearse in a vaudeville house. There is a good line of comedy between him and "props" all the points attempted scoring. The act proceeds in one and the star made a most positive hit with his singing gaining spontaneous applause at the finish of his song. A line of comedy springs up between him and the leader of the orchestra, incidentally a member of the company stationed in the pit. The act moves along with another song which went big. A remark dropped by the leader of the orchestra to a young woman violinist, another "plant" in the orchestra causes the star to trace a resemblance in her to his lost daughter. She exits with members of orchestra for home, the drop rises on plain chamber, home of girl, the old man has followed her there is a recognition between him and her as father and daughter and a very effective finish holding her in his arms singing a "Dreaming Number". The act went big from beginning to end and it is fully deserving of the success attained for we have had nothing better for a long time. 25 minutes. DILLON BROTHER: The well known parody singers with a lot of new stuff, one of the boys being a new one on me. -- I have had them three times and each time one fellow has in tow a "new" relative. -- This last boy is better than the last "company" the other fellow had but I can't refer to any of them by name as they seem to be a lightening-change sort of family. They made the house roar for 21 minutes and could have held them longer which is about all one can ask. - I will take a chance on the present duo most any time they need the work and you can't place them for are my male "Elinore Sisters." BELLONG BROTHERS: Equlibrists and good ones. They have a lot of good feats and know how to present them. -- No possible fault to find with them. Garden 14 minutes. Pictures: O. K. NOTE: A very well balanced show starting out moderately winning favor and finishing excellently.
