-2- T. Nelson Downs. On at 3.06, 19 minutes in one. This man is certainly a marvelous manipulator of coins and cards. While his act does not win a great amount of applause, still I am confident that he mystifies, pleases and creates a lot of talk. XX1 Harry Tighe's Collegians. On at 3.25, 26 minutes, full stage. Playing their new offering, "Books." This sketch suffers only by comparison with Tighe's first presentation. If he had never produced "Those Happy Days," "Books" would be considered a wonder. As it is I consider it well worth playing. It has a breeziness and snap about it that make it a most refreshing number. There is a tendency towards spiceness that will not be welcome in some houses, and will probably get the same treatment in the way of cuts that it received here. XX1 Stella Mayhew. On at 3.51, 22 minutes in one. Miss Mayhew gave us almost an entirely new bunch of material to-day. In fact, if my memory serves me right, I do not think she has ever sung any of the songs here before. She is a very great favorite in Boston and scored heavily. Billie Taylor's work as conductor, his cross-kidding with Miss Mayhew, and his song, help the act materially. XX1 Novello's Circus. On at 4.13, 12 minutes, full stage. This truly great ensemble act with its acrobats, elephants, ponies and dogs, and splendid display of showmanship, duplicated the big hit it made here last season. In a class by itself. XX1 The Kinetograph. "The World's Championship Series of 1908."--This remarkable base ball picture made a most palpable hit to-day. In fact, I think it can be credited with a batting average of .400. "Stung."--A fairly good comic. Cuts. Lew Wells--Joint story. Mention of Green River Whisky and Danderine. All mention of booze. One "damn." Morrissey and Ayer.--One "damn," one "devil," and one "Hell." Harry Tighe and Co.--All "damns," all "hells," business with stuffed stocking. To make sure of this the stocking was removed from the scene. Cochee movements by Tighe and St. James. Comment. With the Madcaps in the bill this will make a bright, lively show, one particularly suited to the holiday work. For the balance of the week it will run as follows;-- A Overture A Goyt Trio C Morrissey & Ayer D Phillipi Bros. E Lew Wells F Rain-Dears G Cook & Sylvia H Tighe's Collegians I T. Nelson Downs J Novello's Circus K Stella Mayhew Eight Madcaps M Kinetograph.
