KEITH'S HIPPODROME. Cleveland, Ohio. NED S Hastings. Jan,18th,1909. MARTINNETTE & SYLVESTER. 2 men. F.S. woods. Time 8. 1 straight, 1 comedy. Eccentric tumblers and jumpers with table and chairs. A very good act combining real fun with skill. Went poorly owing to people coming in on their work. Could stand much harder spot on bill. "THE" QUARTETTE. 4 men. In 1. Time 15. Solos and ensemble. Sang well and went very well, taking two genuine encores. LA VEEN, CROSS & CO. All men, apparently 5. Open in 1, then F.S. Roman palace special interior. Time 21. The act is presented in 4 scenes, 2 F.S. as above, 1 with red plush drop, and one in 1. Various athletics stunts porporting to be "Roman Sports and Pastimes" are shown. The sports are good, the comedy rather dreary and long drawn out. La Veen, who has a splendid physique, poses after famous statues, in an attractive muscle exhibition. SELMA BRAATZ. Miss Braatz and older woman assistant. F.S. exterior. Time 14. Miss Braatz does some extremely clever juggling, that with a high silk hat winning unusual applause. The assistant does some novel soap bubble juggling, good. The act is neat, quick and scored well. THE McNAUGHTONS. 2 men. in 1. Time 18. This droll talking and eccentric boxing act is as funny as ever. The audience liked it immensely. VALERIE BERGERE & CO. Time, 29. F.S., specially constructed scenery and set for this production of "Carmen." 30 extra supers, men and women. The strict dramatic version is highly intense and put on with characteristic Bergere vigor, going strongly. The supers fill out a highly attractive stage picture. The act is being talked about on the streets already. The best work Miss Bergere has done here yet. ESTELLE WENTWORTH. In 1. Tome 10. Miss Wentworth has an unusually pleasing voice, clear, sweet and of great range. She sings classical numbers and melodies of "The Last Rose Of Summer" order. Made a big hit. JEAN MARCEL'S LIVING ART STUDIES. In 3. Time 18. Special large gold frame for setting. A series of highly artistic poses by clever posers. Some classic, some bronze, some colored pictures. Most are ancient or medieval, one or two modern in tone. The act is beyond adverse criticism. Each picture met with an enthusiastic reception.
