REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 6th, 1909 Charles Lovenberg, Manager. The show is an excellent one. Plays briskly and smartly and is particularly well adapted to the holiday audience. SCANLON & BARRETT Two men in an acrobatic comedy act, barrel jumping, etc. which is all right at the price. Good enough to open the show in the smaller houses. 10 Min. F. S. SWAN & O'DAY Blackface comedians and dancers. This act made good thoroughly and could hold a spot on the bill two or three pegs farther down. The comedy is bright and the eccentric dancing of one of the men is particularly good. 14 Min. in One. BLACK BEAUTY This is a miniature melodrama in three scenes and, if the way it went with this afternoon's and tonight's audiences is any driterion, it is an unqualified hit. The story of Black Beauty is so well and favorably known that the advertising value of the act is great. It is full of melodramatic touches but it goes as does the comedy. The horse interest is particularly strong and is bound to appeal to all those who love animals. They have a very beautiful horse who does some tricks during the action of the play. When desired, they give a reception on the stage after the matinee, children riding on the horses back, et cetera. I doubt of the act would have any value in New York with the sporty crowd, but feel sure it will go in all other cities. In the theatres of the Poli, Hathaway and Wilmer & Vincent Circuits it should prove a particularly strong attraction. The act now runs 34 Min., but I am aiming to get it down to something near 25 Min. They carry two complete sets of scenery. THE NEAPOLITANS My latest vocal offering, composed of two women and one man in a program of Neapolitan songs and popular grand opera numbers. The act was a distinct hit today, particularly with the night audience. 18 Min. Carry their own drop in One. EVA TAYLOR & CO. In "Chums", a well-known act which held up its reputation, being quite successful here today. 29 Min. F. S. AUGUSTA GLOSE Pianologue and character songs. Miss Glose is a most dainty little lady whose personality gets over the footlights and she delivers some very good material most effectively. Was decidedly liked. 13 Min. in One, using Grand Piano. ROCHES' MONKEYS Presenting "Amateur Night In A Monkey Music Halls. Among the best animal novelties we ever had in the theatre, the monkey musical director particularly keeping the audience in screams of laughter. 15 Min. F. S. BROWN, HARRIS & BROWN Put in at short notice to replace the McNaughtons and made the hit of the show. 28 Min. Open and close in One. THE PHANTASTIC PHANTOMS Well-known novelty, playing here for the first time and introducing some of the best acrobatic work we ever had in the way of ground tumbling. Scored a success. 13 Min. FS. MOTION PICTURES O.K.
