REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF SEPT. 20th, 1909. Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr. I am particularly well pleased with the show this week. There is not an act in it that falls down. I think some of them get all they are worth in money, but the general result is first class. Kresko & Fox Man and woman in a singing and talking act, somewhat novel in the general make-up, but marred by the woman's over-strenuous manner with a little toning down, the act should be all right for a number two spot. They are put into this bill to replace Nevins & Arnold, who lost their music en route. Kresko & Fox are playing both Pawtucket and Providence. 11 Min. in One. CHRISTY & WILLIS Man juggler, woman assistant. The man is somewhat after the style of Charles T. Aldrich and pretty near as good. A very good act for the money. 15 Min. Open F.S. close in One. Howard Truesdell & Co. In "A Corner in Hair". They got quite a few laughs today, rather because the sketch is good than the way they played it. In fact, I think all the actors in the company, including Mr. Truesdell himself, are pretty bad. Incidentally, Mr. Truesdell is one of the worst anarchists that we have come here. 21 Min. F.S. BROWN & AYER Two men, singing and talking act, with piano. One of these men is exceptionally clever and the act today was one of the hits of the bill. Great value for the money. Could come pretty near holding the bottom spot. 21 Min. In One. HOMER LIND & CO. In "The Opera Singer". From the standpoint of novelty, as well as of merit, this is one of the best sketches we ever played in the house. No one need be afraid to headline it on any bill. 25 Min. F.S. As they open with a bare stage, they can follow almost any sort of an act. RAY COX Repeated her usual success. 20 Min. in One. The MODELS of the JARDIN De PARIS Just why it is called this, I don't know. Almost any other name would fit it as well. It makes a corking good act principally because of the cleverness of Mr. Caryl Henry, who deserves to be featured in it. The other comedian, while fairly good, does not keep pace with him at all. One young lady is clever and has a nice personality. The straight man is mediocre, while the rest of the company get by. It seems to me that a sketch of that kind should have had some original songs, rather than use such hackneyed ones as "Carrie" and "Come Take A Trip in My Airship". In the latter they introduce conversational choruses, which got them a couple of recalls. The sketch sags in spots and should have at least five minutes more cut out of it, and it did not finish with the Hurrah that I expected it would. It is a very good act. I want to impress that firmly upon the minds of those reading this report. It is novel and it is funny and my fault findings are from the standpoint of the salary they are asking and which, to my mind, they are not worth. $700 is big money for the act anywhere. 30 Min. F. S. Can close in One. HARRY B. LESTER One of the cleverest men in his line that we had. Made a decided hit, altho most of his material is that used last year. A couple of the stories he told, among his new material, were decidedly on the edge, the one about the Peacock being probably the worst story ever told on our stage. The one about the man with twelve children is also decidedly vulgar. He should be warned about those in every house before he opens. 22 Min. in One. BELLECLAIRE & HERMANN A very good act for the money, but by no means on a par with the Belleclaire Brothers. 10 Min. F. S. MOTION PICTURES O.K.
