C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. OCT. 18, 09. PEDERSON BROTHERS. 8 min. This is a corking good act, and makes an excellent opener. In fact, it is a shame that these boys have to open the show because their work is unique, and full of ginger all the way through. One man works straight, the other clown comedy, the latter being a wonder on the bar and the swinging rings. Constant applause and a strong finish. POST & RUSSELL. 13 min. in one. Two men, one working straight, the other eccentric. While these men sing fairly well and dance very well indeed, their line of talk is very weak. Open very slow but got them fairly well at the finish. As far down the bill as they can go in this house. A. O. DUNCAN. 18 min. in two, close in one. Always a favorite here. An amusing line of talk that kept the audience in good humor. Mostly new material and all up to his usual standard. Closed well. VIOLET BLACK & CO. "In the Subway." 18 min. F.S. Same act as offered here before. Went fairly well with the afternoon crowd. BELLE BLANCHE. 20 min. in one. Advance applause. Imitations of Irene Franklin, Jack Norworth, Nora Bayes and James Powers, Bessie McCoy, Marie Dressler and Eva Tanguay. All went well. Good applause and a ripping closing hand. Has improved since her last visit here. "PRINCESS RAJAH." 14 min. F.S. This is a great act and no mistake. The way Rajah presented it this afternoon there could not be the slightest objection to it. On the contrary, it is one of the most artistic and original acts of the kind ever seen here, and the music and stage setting leave nothing to be desired to make it finished and effective. The tragic finish to the first part of the act got a rousing hand, and the dance with the heavy chair in her teeth scored big. Think Rajah will draw well, particularly as there can be no objections to the entire feature as given today. JAMES HARRIGAN. 21 min. in one. Very funny line of talk, although a little too inclined to big for applause. Laughter throughout, and a big close. The juggling part of the act only serves as an excuse. LOVENBERG'S "OPERATIC FESTIVAL." 28 min. F.S., close in one. This is the best operatic combination that we have ever had. The voices are admirably trained and every selection was given with dramatic intensity and musical precision. The costuming and stage setting are both every effective and every number received a big hand. This is a strong musical town, and for that reason I think the act will draw money. The close with the gondola scene and the finish in one, with the confetti throwing into the audience, won big applause. MURPHY, NICHOLS & CO. "The School for Acting." 26 min. F.S. Same act as presented here before, and just as big a scream. Two new people in the act and both good. Murphy funnier than ever. Laughs all the way through and a big finish. Makes a good closer. KINETOGRAPH. "The Motor Races." The best series of pictures of a timely subject that Lubin ever took. Of course, being a local race, it goes very much stronger than it otherwise would. However, would be interesting anywhere on account of its national importance and the exciting finish. GENERAL REMARKS. This is a smooth-running show and with "Rajah" as a headliner hope to do a good business following up the general interest aroused by the two brilliant weeks of "Peter." cuts POST & RUSSELL: Reference on "Saloon" and "Undertaker." JAMES HARRIGAN. Reference to "Caruso and the monkey house;" also addressing any remarks to any individual in the audience, particularly commenting on anyone leaving.
