PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S JANUARY 23rd, 2 FABLES & TOPICS - Former very good. Latter just fair. McDONALD TRIO - (7 mins.) A man and two girls in straight bicycle riding. A good looking act and a very good opener. J. KIERN BRENNAN & JIMMY RULE - (18 mins.) Two men, piano and singing, using mostly ballads and working straight. A medley of their own compositions is featured. Good voices and scored strongly. JACK McLALLEN & MAY CARSON - (21 mins.) A big laughing hit. The man does very little skating now but does a great dancing bit on skates on a table and this, with his droll comedy in which he is assisted by the girl, he got a lot of laughs and applause. FLORENZ AMES & ADELAIDE WINTHROP - (30 mins.) Repeated very well in their travesty bits, which they get a lot out of, through clever handling. ELLA RETFORD - (22 mins.) Her first appearance here and she made herself a prime favorite at once. Good voice and pleasing personality. She does American and English songs with three impersonations of well-known stage stars and she scored with all her material. Took several bows and made a speech. HOUDINI - (26 mins.) He still remains, in our opinion, the greatest of showmen and his present offering created the same amount of interest he has always aroused in this house, where he has appeared often. He was cordially welcomed and his whole act was a big feature. WATSON SISTERS - (27 mins.) Made a very satisfactory next to closing act with their comedy and songs. They have made a few changes since we last played the act but had no trouble in holding this spot. MME. BRADNA - (5 mins.) A high-class circus act, very prettily staged, good looking and did splendidly in the closing position. PATHE NEWS - Usual average. GENERAL REMARKS - Dooley & Sales reported sick and were out of the bill. This necessitated shifting our bill a bit but we had plenty of show and finished the week with the eight acts, getting excellent results. It was a very satisfactory bill, surrounding our headliner, who proved his usual big drawing power. CUTS Ames & Winthrop - Modify talk regarding "woodchuck" and the answer "You're some old buzz-saw".
