C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JULY 11, 1910. ZARA-CARMEN TRIO. 10 min. F.S. This is a splendid opening act. The stage setting with the dark plush bordered with gold makes a very fine background for the stunning pink and silver costumes of the two women and the man, all of whom make an excellent appearance. The baton-swinging is remarkable, and their work with the hoops is good. Closed very well with whirling torches. BISSETT & SCOTT. 8 min. in one. These boys have evidently endeavored to get something new in the wooden shoe dancing line without the eccentric costuming. Make a good appearance and their work is clever. Held this spot acceptably. Closed with a dance on a couple of chairs which got a good hand. BURT & STANFORD. "The Order of the Bath." 17 min. F.S. This act was presented here before and made a hit, as it did today. It is full of bright lines and clean humor. Received applause and closed well. CLAY SMITH & MELNOTTE TWINS. 18 min. in one. Act well known on the circuit. Gave some of their former material with some new. The twins sing and dance in a sprightly and pleasing manner, and Clay Smith's comedy work is entirely satisfactory for this spot. Considerable laughter throughout and a good closing hand. "THE MAID OF MYSTERY." 9 min. F.S. Held over for a second week owing to the fact that she was heavily boomed and much talked about in the papers and about town. Made a good impression as before and will draw business. HUGHEY DOUGHERTY. 15 min. in one. Prolonged advance applause. This is Hughey's first appearance after a retirement (through illness) of something more than a year. He was a little nervous, nevertheless he gave a good account of himself and had the audience with him throughout. Bright line of talk and gave a burlesque "Annie Laurie" song as an encore. Closed strong. GUS EDWARDS' SCHOOL BOYS & GIRLS. 28 min. F.S., close in one. This act has been greatly improved since it was first presented here. Songs are good and the comedy is very lively. The singing, both the solos and choruses, is commendable. Act goes very fast, and winds up with a good hurrah. SEBASTIAN MERRILL & CO. 17 min. F.S. This is a remarkable collection of freak and trick bicycles, and the three men do extraordinary feats on them. One works straight in a fine athletic costume, and the other two in comedy makeup. This is an excellent closing act, and elicits plenty of interest, laughter and applause.right up to the closing high somersault trick on a tandem performed by the two Merrills, which is a ripper. Closed strong. KINETOGRAPH. "The Mulligans' Hire Out. Good comedy film. "Ready in a Minute." Also a good series for a summer show. GENERAL REMARKS. This is a good, light, summer, comedy, novelty show and if the cool weather that we have been praying for, for weeks ever hits us, will certainly pull them in. Tonight is "Hughey Dougherty" night, and both Teams--Athletics and Detroits--will be present in a body, together with several hundred of Hughey's "fun" friends who have practically taken up the orchestra. CUTS -- Clay Smith & Melnotte Twins:- Reference to "having played in Troy and the wife and seven kids". Also reference to "goldfish in the aquariums and copper bottoms. Also reference to "Three Weeks" also expression "Little Devil". Gus Edwards School Boys and Girls:- Reference to Teddy Roosevelt as a hunter and Caruso in Central Park.
