HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. SEP 12 1910 JOHN C. PEEBLES. The show this afternoon went badly. With the reaarangement of the bill tonight each act went over in very good shape and what looked to be a "bloomer" turned out to be a very good bill. 1- FOUR CASTING CAMPBELLS. Aerial Act. Moved from closing position to open. Four men in an ordinary routine of casting. Act is weak in comedy and it would improve the act greatly if the two "comedians" would clean up their makeup. Work of the straight man is good and act should get by in this spot. Garden in 4. Time 9 min. 2- JOHNNY STANLEY & RUBY NORTON. Bits of Vaudeville. Moved from #6 to this spot. I may be prejudiced but I never could discover any ability as a comedian to Stanley, though I have suffered myself to sit through his act at various times and places. Apparently the audience this afternoon was of the same mind for the act died absolutely. In justice to Stanley it should be stated that the edge was taken off his work in the audience through Sam Mann preceding him on the bill and working from the orchestra pit. In this spot tonight the act went a hundred per-cent better. Olio in 1. Time 12 min. 3-ROWENA STEWART & GLADYS MURRAY, Sketch, "Broadway Love." Two very pretty girls in a quiet dramatic sketch that had the misfortune to have to open the show at the matinee and were moved to this spot to give them a better chance. There are just a few rough edges to the act as yet that will smooth out in time. The attractive appearance of the girls and a rather dramatic finish will carry the act over in this spot anywhere. One song is introduced in the act. Parlor in 3. Time 17 min. 4- SHARKEY, GEISLER & LEWIS. Piano and singing trio. On the order of the Taylor, Krantzman & White and Edwards, Van and Tierney acts. Boys look well, sing well and should prove a hit on any bill. Moved from #3 spot after the matinee where they proved the applause hit of the program. Palace drop in 2, with piano. Time 13 min. 5-A NIGHT WITH THE POETS. This act went rather slowly this afternoon as a new man in the quartet did not seem to be up in his business. Lloyd's reading was as admirable as ever but the quartet seemed to have selections that dragged horribly and which are to be changed tomorrow. While "Maud Miller" is a pretty poem I think the old selection of "The Old Man and Jim" would be better appreciated by our audiences. Much of the nervousness of the afternoon had worn off by night and the act went much better. Own set in 3. Time 22 min. 6-HATHAWAY, KELLY & MACK, Novelty Amusement Trio. Moved from @2 spot and went over in good shape with their songs and novelty dances. Girls look well and the trio are better singers than are usually found in acts of this character. Street in 1. Time 12 min. 7-SAM MANN & CO., "The New Leader." This is a bare stage act with a morning vaudeville rehearsal in progress. Sam Mann, in the role of a German leader, had the audience firly howling with laughter all through the act. Act is rather rough at present and needs to be chopped way down to within a decent running length as it drags considerably towards the finish. Moved from #4 to this spot and held it tonight in good shape. Bare stage, 38 min.
