Report of PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of January 16, 1911. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. The bill is a fairly good one although hardly up to the pace that we have set the last few weeks; neither does it cost quite as much money. In advertising the show this week, the ad was printed in the form of the schedule, time table order, without making any headliner; this because we did not really have a headliner, and in spite of this fact, we opened this afternoon to the biggest Monday matinee that we have had for months outside of the holidays, which proves that with a few exceptions, names don't count and a lot of people are getting money for their names and they can't draw it in. It only remains to be seen now for the rest of the week, whether we can keep up the pace set at the opening. As a matter of fact, whatever fall-downs we had today of any consequence, came more from where we expected hits in our highest priced acts. BLACK BROS. Banjoists and dancers. A neat little act for the early part of the bill; worth the money all right. 10 Min. in One. THE 3 LIVINGSTONS Comedy bar-act. They don't compare, by any means, with other number of acts of similar nature and they are getting twice as much money they are worth. 7 Min. F. S. CHAS. OLCOTT Pianologue and "one man opera." A neat little turn worth about what it gets. Would not want to give it any more important spot on the bill. 15 Min. in One. "THE LITTLE STRANGER" A very pretty little espisode. Well acted and well liked. 16 Min. in Three. DONOVAN & ARNOLD It is surprising how well this act went, particularly Donovan's monologue. He had a lot of stuff which seemed new to me and had the audience in screams. When Miss Arnold came on the stage the act let down some, but they went quite well as a whole. 20 Min. in One. KARL EMMY'S PETS A dog act that is wellknown over the circuit and repeated here the success that they have been credited with everywhere. A very valuable act. 16 Min. F. S. LYDIA BARRY While Miss Barry went very well, she didn't set anybody crazy, only managed to do 14 Min. as against 18, which has been credited to her in other cities. At the finish there was no tremendous demand for her to come back. All in all she can be said to have done fairly in one. GERALD GRIFFIN & CO. in "Other People's Money" This is quite a funny sketch. Griffin had them laughing and the act may be said to have scored a hit. However, with the exception of the boy, his support is not very good. 24 Min. F. S. STUART BARNES Wellknown monologuist. Barnes never does go as well in Providence as he seems to in other cities and today was no exception. I don't mean by that, that he is a failure, (far from it) but he is not worth anything like the salary to us. He had some new songs, only one of which the audience particularly cared for and the most of his talk was old. 20 Min. in One. DENNIS BROS. Revolving ladder act and a good one. A splendid investment. 10 Min. F. S. DAYLIGHT MOTION PICTURES Which held the interest fully as well as last week.
