REPORT ON COLUMBUS SHOW WEEK SEPT. 8, 1913--W.W. PROSSER. WEEK SET 8 Be Anos: Man and woman "The Lady and the Clown" in novelty contortion number. Made a very good opener. Held attention throughout and finished strong. Landscape in 3, 8 minutes. (St. Louis) Bert Howard & Effie Lawrence: In comedy skit, "The Cigar Girl". Quite an entertaining number in which songs, talk dancing and piano work are very successfully presented. Proved quite acceptable, doing well throughout and finishing strong. Special in 2. 14 minutes (St. Louis) Field Brothers: Eccentric dancers. They have an excellent line of dancing which they put over in great shape. Made good throughout and finished strong. Street in 1, 10 min. (Milwaukee) Arthur Sullivan & Co: In a one-act playlet of the underworld, entitled "Straight." This is a very interesting story, most capably presented. It is away from the usual thing and there was no trouble in holding undivided attention throughout. A good comedy surprise finish rounds out the offering in a way which commanded several bows. Kitchen in 3, 16 minutes. (Open) Eunice Burnham & Charles Irwin: Piano, song and talking number, "The Song Sketch". Pretty fair of its kind, doing quite well, though nothing big. The man took the honors. There was a fairly strong finish. Olio in 1, 15 minutes. (Toledo) John Conroy: And His Models and Diving Girls. The best diving act we have ever had. By way of introduction, there are a number of very interesting poses. The act is all that could be desired, and it held every one from start to finish. Plenty of applause and several bows. Special in 5, 16 minutes. (Louisville) Sophie Tucker: The "Mary Garden of Ragtime". Miss Tucker cleaned up. She proved to be the biggest hit we have had for a long time. Her success was such that I feared she would run out of material but she did not, and kept on giving number after number until every one was satisfied. She was most capably assisted by Frank Westphol at the piano. Olio in 1, 21 minutes. (Cincinnati) Hanlon, Dean and Hanlon: Three men, two straight, one comedy. Acrobats and hand balancers. This act is of the first order, and a number of tricks were accorded applause. There were several that went unusually big. Did find throughout scoring a strong finish. Palace in 3, 11 min. (Cincinnati) Pathe Weekly: O.K.
