She tells him that the pretty scenic effects, soft lights, entrancing music and perfumed air will cause the young men to propose, but the society man says the contrary will be true. He insist that woman always proposes and not the man and he cites his own two cases. They step to one side behind a palm bower as the first couple comes in. The girl proposes and is accepted. She leaves and in comes the second couple, and after them the third and in each case the girl proposes. The society matron is disappointed and surprised. To save her belief in the old fashioned contention that man proposes the society man asks for her hand and is at once accepted. The act is very pleasing making a special appeal to women. The act opens with the man singing a song and calling for a girl and his partner makes her appearance in the theatre aisle and goes to the stage.
