B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of Sept 15, 1913 Cleveland, Ohio THE SKATING BEAR - - 10 minutes. Landscape in 4. Trainer also works on roller skates. A novel opening act, very pleasing. The bear really skates propelling himself by leg movements like a human being. A good act for the children. (Pittsburg) GERTRUDE HOLMES & ROBERT BUCHANNAN - -"Songs old and new". 16 minutes in 2. Dark fancy. Man has excellent voice scoring heavily on his solo. Act is dressed beautifully, making several changes to suit period of the songs rendered. this team was well liked and received generous applause at both shows. (Grand Rapids) JAMES [M.? H.?] CULLEN - - "The Man from the West". Olio in one. 18 minutes. Has some new stuff with plenty of old. His quiet manner wins the audience from the start and both were generous in their appreciation of his songs and stories. (Buffalo) THE GARDINER TRIO - - 10 minutes in 3. Palace. Two girls and a boy in society dances. 5 numbers including the Turkey Trot and the Tango. All given with plenty of dash and style with several changes of costume. A finished act given in a thoroughly enjoyable manner. (Boston) MOTION PICTURES OF HARRY. K. THAW. An interesting report on the event as it transpired at Sherbrooke, Can. CECIL LEAN - Assisted by Cleo Mayfield and James Billings, in "Acting Songs". Full stage. 21 minutes. Seven songs by Mr. Lean are used "Tell-a-phoney Tale" and a burlesque on the "Edison Talkies" scoring heavily. Both these numbers are excellent and the incidental dialogue and "business" are novel in the extreme. The act was the hit of the bill and received repeated encores. (Cincinnati) CARL HENRY & NELLIE FRANCIS - - "Just Nonsense" Man working in eccentric dress suit, woman straight. 15 minutes in one. A really funny comedian with burlesque methods, pleasing both audiences immensely. Act made up largely by an exchange of personalities. (Indianapolis) MAURICE LEVI & HIS INVISIBLE BAND - - 14 minutes. special set consisting of an elaborate "black art" frame. Levy works in white band uniform in front of this, while only the instruments of his men are seen against the black background. Numbers are well rendered but the patriotic number evidently intended to create a furore got over only fairly well. (Chicago) PATHE'S WEEKLY
