HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. WEEK SEPT. 15, 1913. Joseph R. Smith. GORDON'S COMEDY DOGS--- The animals are well trained performing such tricks as walking tightrope, standing on a ball, climbing a ladder and selecting colors. there isn't much comedy in the act, but it went fair. F.S. 12 min. FLO AND WYNNE--- Two girls, one of whom impersonates a man. They sing and dance and have two costume changes. Only a fair act. In one 12 Min. "THE GIRL" presented by Jesse Lasky with a cast of three men including Brandon Hurst. Scene a bachelor's apartment. The story concerns a middle aged and wealthy man and a young, but poor fellow who are in love with the same girl. Failing to buy off his young rival the middleaged man arranges a pistol duel to take place in his rooms. He loads his rival's revolver with blank cartridges and as a man-servant drops a handkerchief they fire at each other and the middleaged man falls, apparently dead. Fearful that he has committed murder the young rival and the servant hasten from the scene. A little later the middleaged man gets up believing he has so scared his younger rival that he will have a clear field for the girl's hand, but he later learns that when the young rival left town he took the girl with him and also a large sum of money from the desk in the room where the duel took place. The act went very good. Time of act 19 min. KILLIAM AND MOORE---Two men, singers and story tellers. One wears a full dress suit and the other a burlesque street costume. They went very well. In one 16 min. INTERMISSION---- "BILLY BITTLES" with Lynne Overman and one man and two women presented by Charles Lovenberg. The scene is a hotel room and the act which is filled with comedy shows up the old badger game. The lines are bright and snappy and the situations are good. On account of Overman having been a member of former stock companies at this house the act went unusually good. time of act 23 min. PEPPINO---An accordion virtuoso who plays ragtime and the classic. He is the applause hit of the bill. In one 14 min. "BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP" presented by William A. Brady with a cast of nine women. The scene is a beauty parlor, and it is remarkably good being equipped with every modern beauty parlor attachment. The story concerns a western woman, the wife of a man just elected to the United States Senate. She is old and plainly dressed and as her husband has not been as attentive of late as he was formerly she comes to New York and meets a society woman, to whom she confides her troubles. The society woman advises the wife to go to a beauty parlor to be made over so that she might win back her husband's affections. She takes the advice and visits the parlor and proceeds at once to be made beautiful. When the manicure girl, the hairdresser and the facial massage artist are through with her she looks much younger and fresher and in a new gown she looks like her society friend. The act is crowded with good situations and at all times the lines are laugh producers. Everything is put over nicely. The act went very big. Time of act 25 min. HUDSONGRAPH-- O.K.
