C. E. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 29, 1913. HANLON & CLIFTON. 7 min. F.S. Certainly a novel act and rightly named. Begins with a little piano-playing by the younger, then proceeds to the strong-man work by the heavyweight. This is very expert and got good applause. Closed as unexpectedly as it opened, to a fine hand. Could hold a better spot with credit. WALLACE GALVIN. 15 min. in one. A neat-appearing man who does some new sleight-of-hand tricks, some of them never seen here before. Made a good impression; O. K. in the upper half of the bill. Closed well. ENGLISH & JOHNSON. 6 min. F.S. Young lady is pretty, a very good dancer, and together they give a demonstration of society and fancy dancing. Received some applause throughout and closed fairly well. GRANT & HOAG. 23 min. Special in one. Well known entertainers who introduced a lot of new material, all good. Kept the audience laughing with their nonsense and original songs. Held the spot O. K. and closed to a good hand. LYNNE OVERMAN & CO. 17 min. in three. This sketch is quite out of the ordinary considered as a bunco play. Well acted by Overman and his support, holding the attention throughout, and closing very well after the surprise finish. FAY, 2 COLEYS & FAY. 12 min. Street in one. Advance hand. There is plenty of life and ginger in this act, lots of comedy, lively dancing and good vocal work. Held this spot in fine shape, getting plenty of laughter and closing big. EDDIE FOY. 16 min. Special in 1 1/2. Second and last week. Big advance applause for Foy. Act went as big as ever to a crowded houses applauding generously. Closed very strong, with two funny little speeches by Foy. If the enthusiasm of the crowd is any criterion, the Foy Family will draw as big this week as they did last. LILLIAN SHAW. 23 min. Open and close in one. Advance applause. Gave five selections in Yiddish, Cockney, German and Italian dialects, three of them new to this house. Big applause after each number, and closed well with her "Baseball Ike" song. FIVE MOWATTS. 7 min. Garden in three. The best of their kind and made quite a sensation with new and rapid feats with the clubs. Plenty of applause and finished strong PATHE WEEKLY. 15 min. A series of ten interesting pictures, including the "Bud" Fisher cartoons. GENERAL REMARKS. Show played off very well to a big matinee house. It looks like a good week's business ahead. CUTS HANLON & CLIFTON: Business of warming partner against grate fire. GRANT & HOAG: Elimination of expression "Teacher," etc. LYNNE OVERMAN: Modification of expression "Warm up to him" and also the word "chicken," referring to young girl. FIVE MOWATTS: Elimination of mock prayer.
