84 CRITICISM OF 1ST SHOW PHILADELPHIA. DEC. 1ST. Zarnes Duo - 3 shows - 10 mins. Garden in four - Man and woman in swinging ring act; good. Frank Bowman - 3 shows - 15 mins in one - Mystifyier; good act of its kind, but talk too much; had to cut out some of the talk this afternoon. Evans & St. john - 3 shows - 15 mins in one - Man and woman working in straight singing and dancing act; fair. Cadieux - 3 shows - 10 mins - Garden in four - Bounding wire man; personification of grace and agility, and received a good hand, especially from the boxes. Brooks Bros. - 3 shows - 10 mins in one - Two men, one working in blackface, the othet straight ; just held their own and that's all. Romany Trio - 3 shows - 15 mins in one - Two women and one man using viola and guitar, other woman being the xxxxxxxx soloist. The act could be built up to a first class act / of its kind such as the Three Dumonds. Their selections now are not appropriate. Dave Nowlin - 3 shows - 15 mins in one - Mimic comedian; always clever and gets a good hand. Kennedy & Quatrelli - 3 shows - 12 mins. - Landscape in four - Two men, jugglers, in grotesque "make-up"; very good juggling act. Mayme Remington and Four Picks. - 2 shows - 15 mins. in one - She could work in three to better advantage; act always goes well, but is not a great hit. Snyder & Buckley - 2 shows - 22 mins. - Box set; close in one - Two men, one working straight, in a vocal and instrumental act. They happened to be the hit of the bill to-day and received the first applause. Act went very strong. Rossow Midgerts - 2 shows - 10 mins. - Garden in three - Two midgets, same old act, with prize fight wind-up. Act did not go strong as it usually does; created no enthusiasm. Julian Rose - 2 shows - 15 mins in one - Jew impersonator; very good monologue. Bright Bros. - 2 shows - 10 mins. - Box set - Athletes; always good. Chas. Rossow - 2 shows - 8 mins in one - Made no great hit and should return to his old songs. Milton & Dolly Nobles - 2 shows - 25 mins. - Box set - Assisted by Miss Littany. The sketch, "A Blue Grass xxxxxwx Widow" is a very clever sketch one / and went very well. Press Eldridge - 2 shows - 15 mins. in one - Always good. Techow's Cats and Dogs - 2 shows - 20 mins. - Gar. in four - A good act, but a very quiet one to close the show with. Cats and dogs are both well trained. Nice act for ladies and children. H. A.
