152 CRITICISM OF 1ST SHOW. KEITH'S THEATRE, PHILA., PA. JAN. 12TH Nevins & Arnold - 10 mins, in one - Boy and girls, both working straight, in a neat singing and dancing act; fair to good. Skatenelli - 12 mins. - Gar. in 3 - man working on trapeze and rings. We cut out the xxxxx disrobing shirt tail part of the act this afternoon. The balance of the act is very ordinary; and there are many T.M.C.A. gymnasium boys who could easily duplicate it. Geo. W. Stewart - 15 mins. in one - Mimic, good. Berol & Berol - 15 mins. - Two men, the original rag artist; best of their kind in the business. Smirl & Kessner - 25 mins. - C.D. in 3; close in one - An act put in to-day in place of McMahon & Chapelle. The best [art of the act is the close in one where the man works with a poodle dog. The body of the act resolves itself into a disjointed tumbling and dancing act by the man and woman. The Fadette Orchestra - 30 mins. - Gar. in 5 - Still going very strong, but would suggest that we have a Scotch week, an Irish week, etc. etc., and if possible a high class soloist with suitable songs for each week. Brown & Navarro - 12 mins. in one - Two coons, man and woman, in a sing and dancing act. They do a bit if Chinese work that is very clever. Rice & Walters - 15 mins. - Gar. in 3 ; close in one - Two men in an acrobatic act, one working straight; the other eccentric. Cut out part of the act where the clown continually feels for the seat of his pants to draw music form a tin horn. The falls in the act are very cleverly executed. Banks & Winona Winters - 20 mins. - C.D.F. in 3; close in one- In an xxxxxx alledged sketch, which is really a "small" singing act. In my estimation the team is over estimated. They got a light hand. Woodward's Seals - 25 mins. - Spec. set - Second week. Our feature act. If Woodward would cut out two of his three speeches, the act would go much better. As it is now, it's good, but long drawn out. Stuart Barnes - 15 mins. in one - Stories, rapid fire jokes and songs; went well and got a good hand. Duryon & Kearney - 20 mins. - C. D. F. in 3 - Man and woman in a sketch called "The Imposter." The sketch starts off in a crazy way. and worries the audience until they come to their wind-up which is very good. Clayton White & Maria Stuart would make a hit in it. LaMar & Gabriel - 15 mins. in one - I think Gabriel does as well working white face as he does black. However, he was hardly strong enough to hold them this afternoon, which is probably die to his late place on the bill--4.23. Mully Ambark's Arabs - 10 mins. - Gar. in 5 - Best act in the show. Two of them are of the old original xxxx Buffalo Bill troupe of two years ago. The act is full of action. Excellent. Francelli & Lewis - 12 mins. in one - Man and woman doing straight. Solo and duet work; all right in their place at 5 o'clock. Pantzer Trio - 15 mins. - C. D. F. in 3 - Man and two girls doing some excellent contortion work. Act was so late at 5.30 that it was buried. Very good act. Wyman & Garner - 15 mins. in one - Two men, one working straight; the other German; didn't harm anyone at 5.35 this afternoon. Ozav & Delmo - 15 mins. - own drop in 3 - Two men, one working straight; one eccentric; same old juggling act; all right in its place. The show is not as strong as last week. The two features, the Fadette Orchestra and the seals, did not seem to give enough action. Although both are pleasing, one to the eye; the other to the ear, the audience seems to dream along and it needs something more than the Arabs to get them on their feet. H. D. DANIELS.
