REPORT ON SHOW KEITH'S THEATRE, PROVIDENCE, R. I., WEEK OF FERUARY 3D, 1903. (CHARLES LOVENBERG) A remarkably strong bill all in all. Almost any act on this list is strong enough to take a better place on the program, the only weak offering being that of Tanner & Gilbert. Stereopticon. As usual. Tanner & Gilbert. Rather tame little talking and singing act. 15 min. in one. Newell & Niblo. Instrumentalists. Quite a good little act in which they present some novelties. 13 min. open in two, close in one. Emmons, Emerson and Emmons. In a sketch patterned after the old Robert Macaire Farce. Personally, I did not see anything remarkable in it but the audience laughed and seemed to be please with it. 25 min. open full stage close with about 5 min. in one. Biograph. Good collection of views. Mr. & Mrs. Mark Murphy. In the sketch "Why Doogan Swore Off" which is probably the best thing they have ever done. Went very strong with the audience. Anna Caldwell. Monologue and songs. She did a little better than I expected she would but was a great ways from making a hit, the greatest applause being on the subjects in which she roasted the Trusts and J. Pierpont Morgan, which, of course, always goes. 10 min. in one The Moto-Girl. This feature no doubt drew us a great deal of money as we had the biggest opening of the season yesterday. I am quite sure that the act also makes good as the people are talking about it around town and am confident we will get some money from it. 12 min. full stage. Lew Hawkins. Black-faced monologue. While he has nothing particularly new his act went very well. 17 min. in one. Sager Midgley and Gertie Carlisle. In one of the sketches they have done all over the circuit and which holds its own surprisingly well. 23 minutes open full stage close in one. Francelli & Lewis. Vocalists. Always acceptable. 12 min. in one. The Four Lukens. Aerial Casting act which seems to be even better than before and is unqualifiedly the hit of the show. James Thornton. I was somewhat disappointed in this act as I had been told that he had a lot of new material. Out of the eighteen minutes that he was on the stage probably three minutes were taken up by new stuff, and the rest was the same that he has told time and time again here; and to make the matter worse he came on with a jag, and while he has told me that he would surely straighten up, still the element of danger remains. I don't believe I shall ever want him again. 18 min. in one. Woodward's Trained Seals & Sea-Lions. Comment unnecessary. 25 minutes, full stage. Lynch & Jewell. This is a very good little act in which Lynch opens with some burlesque ballads similar to those done by Louise Dresser but funnier. The illustrations are very grotesque. The he and Miss Jewell do some very good singing and excellent dancing. 15 min. open in one, close in two. The Bijou Circus. This clever little act is always acceptable, and appeals to the children. 20 min. full stage.
