REPORT ON SHOW, KEITH'S THEATRE, PROVIDENCE, R. I., WEEKOF MARCH 23, 1903.(CHARLES LOVENBERG). The show as a whole is somewhat disappointing: The acts, individually, are all right, excepting that the three a day sets reach too far down into the bill. I mean by that, that the Thornes are obliged to go on after 8 o'clock. There are too many circus acts and not enough strong comedy. The two leading features are the Florodora Company and Josephine Sabel who hardly meet expectations; but there is evidently great interest in the Florodora act and I am inclined to believe that they will draw their salary although they will hardly make good for it. I am not sorry I played them but am a little disappointed in the result of their work. STEREOPTICAN. As usual. ADAIR & DAHN. WIRE walkers. Usual act of that kind which may be classed as good. 13 minutes full stage. Ed Mullen, & Dog. I can't see much in this, as he has not very much control over the dog nor does he do any exceptional feats. Fair act. 12 min. full stage. IMHOFF & CONN. In "The Man From Klondike." This is a sketch almost identically the same as the work done by the two men of the Horseshoe Trio, but probably a little bit better done. Good in a very good place in the bill. 15 minutes in three. JONES & SUTTON. Colored singers and dancers. These people are about as good as the average colored act and go first rate with the audience. 14 min. in two closing in one. They can work entirely in one but not to such good advantage. MR. & MRS. HARRY THORNE. In "An Up-town Flat". It is really remarkable how many laughs these people can get out of this old act and cannot do anything else. It has been seen here too much to give it as important a place on the bill as I have to, this week, but when placed right it must be classed as a very good three a day act. 25 minutes in three. JOSEPHINE SABEL. To my mind this woman has no business on the Keith's Circuit. Her methods are of the coarsest and she makes up for her entire lack of ability only by her tremendous infusion of ginger and broadness in the work. 11 minutes in one. PONGO & LEO. These men open their act with some very good ground tumbling and then finish with their balancing pole on the trapeze after the old Frobel and Ruge act. A very good act. 14 minutes in one. THE PETITE FLORODORA COMPANY. That the audience was interested in this act was demonstrated by the flutter of interest when the announcing card was shown. The first part of the act, the singing of "The Shades of the Palms" by one of the men got quite a round of applause. This feature they had not intended putting in but at rehearsal I noticed that it was omitted and I hustled round and got the music for them and had it introduced. They followed this with a song and dance by two people which went fairly andthen came the Double Sextete which got a big round of applause, on the entrance of the people. The man's singing, gave the very best of satisfaction but the girls had no voices at all although they are stunning looking women. They managed to get a couple of encores on this part of the act but there was no great demonstration of approval, although most people whom I have talked with were pleased with the act. I think it will draw for one week in any house, but am very doubtful of its running two weeks anywhere. 15 min . full stage. In case of emergency they could open in one, with one song of about three minutes. PERMANI BROTHERS. These men make very good, in fact, quite a hit.The description of their act was given by New York last week so it will not be necessary for me to go into details. 12 min open full stage close in one. GERTRUDE MANSFIELD & CARYL WILBUR. In a new sketch "61 Prospect Street" which is fully equal to dtheir former offerings and was the hit of the bill. 25 min. in three. LOTTIE GLADSTONE. This young woman proved a great surprise and a very agreeable one. In the afternoon her act went immensely second only to that of Mansfield and Wilbutr She had a very hard place on the night show but went exceedingly well neverthless. 15 min. in one. THE THREE NEVAROA. In their usual hand-balancing and contortion act, which they have frequently done over the circuit, and which is as good as ever. 14 min. full stage. BIOGRAPH. O. K.
