286NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF JUNE 8th. STEREOPTICON. -- The usual selection of views. 5 minutes in 1. AR.--ZARA & STETSON.--A man and a woman in an exhibition of baton juggling. There is not, of course, in an act of this kind, an opportunity to show a great deal of versatility. It is simply one thing right over and over, but I think they are about the best in this line of work that I have ever seen, and they do a very good small act which will give satisfaction in an early part of the bill. 10 minutes, full stage. KR.--THE ALTHEAS TWIN SISTERS.--This is a singing, dancing, and acrobatic act of about the same calibre of the usual "sister" teams. It is no better nor no worse than the average act of the kind, and, while I have never thought that our audiences cared particularly for this sort of act, it is all right once in a while. 9 min., full stage. AR.--SANDERSON.--This fellow makes a specialty of trick piano playing, and in this line is very good indeed. He met with a very favorably reception this afternoon and can safely be called a good small act. 16 minutes in 2. AR.--LARKINS & PATTERSON.-- A colored man and a woman, and they made a mighty strong hit. I think it is fully as good as any of the colored acts that we have played recently. 15 minutes in one. NH.-LAWSON & NAMON.--This is a man and a woman, the man doing a comedy bicylce act, and the woman a bag punching specialty. I don't think our audiences care particularly for bag punching at any stage of the game, for I don't think they fairly understand it, but I should say this woman is about as good as any of them, and the man is a very clever trick bicyclist. There is an element of novelty about the act which makes it good. 14 minutes, full stage. NR.--FERGUSON & WATSON.-- Two men in an eccentric comedy Dutch act; that is, one of the men is made up in an eccentric fashion, and the other as a Dutchman in military costume. They have played the circuit two or three times and are always good. 15 minutes in one. ER.--GORMAN & WEST.--A man and a woman in a comedy sketch which is really a mighty good three-show-a-day act. The idea that they use is an old one, but they present it very acceptably and get a lot of laughs. 18 minutes, open full stage; close with about 3 minutes in one. YNH.--CHAS. DICKSON & CO.--Including Mr. Dickson, a lady, and a young boy, in a sketch entitled "Heart-to-heart Talks." The sketch is constructed in order that it may fit Mr. Dickson's peculiar style of work, and while it is a pretty good act, I think he has done many better ones on the circuit. He had a new woman here this afternoon, who, while she played the part excellently, was unquestionably nervous, and that might have affected Mr. Dickson in a way. The act went all right, but somehow it did not seem to me yo quite meet the criticisms that I have heard of it. However, it is liable to be much better tonight. At any rate, it is hardly fair to judge from a Monday afternoon audience. 33 minutes, full stage. GHR.--MUSICAL DALE.--All that it is necessary to say about this performer is that he is the greatest artist in his line of vaudeville. 21 minutes in one. YRR.--JULES & ELLA GARRISON.--In a travesty not something after the style of Ross & Fenton, and so far as gaining laughs is concerned, I don't see but that they went just as well this afternoon as ever the team did. I call it a very strong sketch. 17 minutes, full stage. watching these people for the last fifteen years, and I never heard an audience laugh heartier than they did this afternoon. 32 minutes, full stage. GHR. -- JORDAN & WELCH. -- Two men in a Hebrew comedy talking act. They had a very hard place in the bill, of course, following McIntyre & Heath, but they made good all right and got a lot of laughs/ 15 minutes in one. YRR. -- TECHOW'S CATS. -- A novelty which is especially attractive to children and of interest to everybody. It is too well known to need extended comment. 15 minutes, full stage. AR. -- THE VITAGRAPH. -- The feature of the exhibition this week is a series of views illustrating the nursery tale of "Jack and the Bean Stalk" which is very cleverly done and held the interest of the audience to the close. 20 minutes in one.
