335 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA., PA. SEPT. 21ST Barlow & Nicholson-15 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-close in one-Man and woman, in an alleged comedy sketch. Man makes up as tramp. Girl's dress is a little seedy. They are placed right when used for openers. Just a fair act. The Devens-10 mins.-Gar, in 3-Two men, acrobats, and a black and tan dog, named Babe. Don't overlook the dog, for he adds materially to the act. The men dress very neatly in silk and velvet, and have a very good act. Denetta Sisters-12 mins in one-Two girls, looking to be about eighteen years old; booked here at YH for a trial. They sing and do wooden shoe dancing. It is a good Keith act, and much better than an $50 acts we play. Purcell & Brooks-15 mins.-Spec. set in 2-close in one-man and woman, in a comedy sketch, "The Bell 'Boy's Troubles." They carry special set. Man has some bright talk and clever jokes. They indulge more in singing than in comedy. A good act. It could be made better, for both have ability, and could handle good stuff. Received a good hand. Doherty's Poodles-12 mins.-Gar. in 3-A woman working ten little white poodles. The dogs are clean, cute and work well. Received frequent and well deserved applause. Avon Comedy Four-15 mins.-Kitchen in 3-close in one-Four men, in a school room scene, a la Al. Leech. A crazy sort of a talking act--but it gets the laughs. One of the men has a good tenor voice. The whole quartette went well, the audience evidently liking their singing as well as their comedy. Two of the four are good dancers. Act is good. Holdin's Mannikins-20 mins.-Special Set-Held intense interest of audience throughout. They changed the performance for the second week. We can easily hold them three weeks. Wallno & Marinette-19 mins.-Palace in 4-Man and woman, in a dancing act. It is in a class by itself. We have nothing like it in this country from which to draw comparison. New, graceful, well dressed, and--a novelty. The woman is petite and dainty; man is a good comedian. Made a hit with their windup. sell front seats to coons, which drives away the regular patrons. Amoros-werner Troupe-20 mins,-C.D.F. in 3-Five people, in a pantomime comedy, with a rough-house wind up. A great act. Was probably the real laughing hit of the show. Went with snap and ginger, with well deserved applause. Comment:- The schedule will have to be shifted considerably. The show contains plenty of good stuff, and when run right will make a very strong bill. Did not run smoothly to-day, but will be greatly improved by to-night. H. A. DANIELS.
