HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. JOHN C. PEEBLES Week of March 6, 1911 --------------------------------------------- THE BALZARS Comedy conjuring act. 2 men. A rather pleasing opening act, the straight man doing some very clever sleight of hand stuff, the other member of the team working comedy. Act opened show in good shape and got plenty of applause. Plain chamber in 3. Time 14 min. --------------------------------------------- REIDY & CURRIER. A classy singing novelty. 1 man. 1 woman. This set went nearly as well as anything on the bill today and received good applause on each of their selections. The woman's harp solo went over in good shape and act thoroughly pleased. Own push drapery in 1. Time 13 min. --------------------------------------------- CLARENCE WILBUR & CO. "The New Scholar." 7 women, 3 men. This set was a big laughing and applause hit today. It is very little changed from the old act which Wilbur played the past two seasons. A couple of the girls lack vim in their work and show need of rehearsal. Wilbur's comedy went with a scream and the audience could hardly get enough of the act. Own set in 3, close in 1,4 min. Time 27 min. --------------------------------------------- THE LANGDONS. "A Night on the Boulevard." 4 men, 1 woman. When this act gets a little smoother it will be one of the best college acts that have yet been put over. The scene is laid in a xxxxxxxx'x student's room. Some of the seniors are preparing to put xxxxx the young Freshmen through a hazing. Knowing his weakness for women they frame up a game to make him call on a mythical "widow," who lives up a dark alley and who has a jealous husband. The game is to have the supposed husband open the door, fire a couple of blank xxxxxxx cartridges at the xx visitors. The freshman's friend is supposed to be shot. As the freshman starts for home a number of other students hidden at intervals along the road keep up a perfect fusillade of shots at the fleeing student. When he reaches his room his sweetheart follows him and tells him that the whole thing is a game that has been played on him. He determines to turn the tables on the hazing party and does so in a most amusing manner. Dickey has made a most excellent production of this act and has surrounded himself with a company of unusual cleverness. Where bright, clean comedy sets are wanted this one should not be overlooked for I firmly believe it will land a substantial hit on any program. The failure of a "sure-fire" revolver to work this afternoon nearly spoiled the finish but, despite the accident, the act took half a dozen curtain calls. Own set in 3. Time 19 min. -------------------------------------------- ARLINGTON FOUR. The signing and dancing messenger boys. Scored a big hit. Street in 1. Time 18 min. ------------------------------------------- STELLA MORRISINI'S ANIMALS. Trained wolf hounds and ponies. Some of the baggage went astray coming from New Bedford and it was found necessary to cut out what is said to be one of the best features of the act, the leaping dogs. Without this feature, which may improve the act a whole lot, the act is very mediocre and would have gone much better as an opening act. All animal acts here are judged from the standpoint of Gruber's and this one does not compare. It is very prettily dressed and will no doubt please the children at the Saturday matinee, but, unfortunately, there is but one Saturday matinee this week. Act would be vastly improved xx if Miss Morrissini could work the points without constantly using the whip. Own set in 4. Time 12 min. DAYLIGHT PICTURES. This feature is proving very popular with our audience and hold the people to the very finish, something that never happened before they were installed.
