HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. JOHN C. PEEBLES. Week of April 24, 1911. PANKLEB TRIO. "The Merry Mudman." An attractive opening number that is away from the ordinary clay modelling acts. A special set is carried and some good light effects are introduced. Some little delay in getting down to actual work on account of stereoptican effects but when Pankleb begins his work with the clay he holds the close attention of the audience. The boy and girl also do a little of the clay modelling. Some quiet comedy is introduced. Own set in 3. Time 16 min. QUINN BROTHERS & ROSSNER "A Fight for Fame." This is a dancing act with some new ideas. A special cut drop is carried showing the front of a moving picture place with a 5-cent store next door. The two boys, both dancers, have been discharged and are having an argument on the sidewalk. The girl has lost her position at the 5-cent store and the three decide to form a three act. Girl introduces two songs which get over and the boys score with their dancing. Both are good hard shoe dancers and were formerly the dancing boys with Mazie Lee. Own drop in 1. Time 15 min. THURBER & MADISON. "A Shopping Tour." Had this act down #6 at matinee but as it had to follow so many acts with dancing shifted them to this spot tonight where the act went much better and pleased the audience. They have a bright line of stuff that is away from the average man and woman talking and singing acts. Own drop in 1 1/2. Close in olio. Time 15 min. BAIELY & AUSTIN. "Just Plain Variety." This is a merry hodge-podge of nonsense that kept the audience laughing in good shape at both performances. Received applause on their entrance. It is one of those indescribable acts that is fast and furious while it lasts and then makes you wonder what it is all about. Open and close in 1, full stage fcy. Time 23 min. MAY TULLY & CO., "The Battle Cry of Freedom." This is a comedy sketch by Bozeman Bulger and is just full of laughs. The story deals with the divorce situation at Reno, two women named Smith being obliged to share the same room at a hotel, both of them seeking a divorce, one because her prior decree was void through some illegal act of the court, the other because her husband had not been properly divorced from his first wife. The talk between the two women is very amusing and the situation, when they both discover that they are in Reno to divorce the same husband is a scream. The dialogue is well handled by Miss Tully and her company and when the act gets to running a little smoother will be one of the best comedies in vaudeville. The only possible fault to be found with the act at present is in the man playing Smith. The actor is miscast-the part needs a good light comedian. Miss Tully introduces several impersonations. Plain chamber in 3. Time 25 min. COOPER AND ROBINSON. "A Friend of Mine." These two well known colored comedians certainly registered a substantial hit in this spot, being moved from #3 after the matinee. Street in 1. Time 16 min. THE BIMBOS. Comedy acrobats. Out of the ordinary and made a most acceptable closing feature. Some of the falls the man does are sensational. Close with burlesque boxing. Wood in 3. Time 12 min.
