C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. OCT. 30, 1911. WENTWORTH, VESTA & "TEDDY." 10 min. in one. Makes a good opener. Some excellent tumbling and some acceptable comedy, particularly after the introduction of the dog, "Teddy," remarkably trained, and does a lot of very amusing stunts which got laughter and applause. Closed well. GORDON BROS. & Kangaroo. 10 min. F.S. A good showman-like act introducing some very lively bag-punching feats and winding up with a three-round burlesque boxing bout with the kangaroo. The animal is very well trained and seems to get a lot of fun hammering his adversary not only with the gloves but by standing on his tail and planting both feet in the boxer's stomach, which gets laughter from all parts of the house. A very novel act and one which would go well anywhere. Closed fairly well. SHIRLEY & KESSLER. 14 min. in one. A fair singing and dancing act, Miss Shirley making two changes of costume. Held the spot but did not make any very strong impression. Closed fair. STEWART & ALEXANDRA. "Broadway Love." 18 min. F.S. This is a brightly written sketch of New York life and very well presented by two girls who are quite well known here. Makes a fine appearance in very stunning gowns and Miss Alexandra has a very pretty voice. Act held this place very acceptably and closed to a good hand. FRANK FOGARTY. 17 min. in one. Advance hand. A great favorite here and everything he does is sure to be warmly received. Gave a lot of new stories and jokes interspersed with some good ones that have been heard before. He went very strong and closed to a big hand after the new Irish song in which the boys in the orchestra joined. WILLARD SIMMS & CO. 26 min. F.S., close in one. This act always goes great here, and today was no exception to the rule. It was a scream from start to finish and closed to big applause. LILLIAN RUSSELL. 16 min. F.S. A capacity house gave Miss Russell a splendid reception this afternoon. She never appeared better, sang sweeter nor had the crowd with her more strongly than today. Gave six selections, all of which were warmly received, and she was recalled again and again until finally compelled to give a little speech which she did very neatly. Miss Russell will surely prove one of the biggest drawing cards we have had here in a long time, as the advance sale is already big and the public interest is widely aroused in this her first vaudeville appearance in Philadelphia. STEPP, MEHLINGER & KING. 21 min. in one. These boys certainly made a hit today with their ragtime songs, comedy and burlesque, and the audience was loth to let them go after a big finish. THE SIX ABDALLAHS. 7 min. F.S. These boys are Americans though they use an Arab name and their work is after the whirlwind Arab manner, shouting and all. It is a fine closing act, very swift and skilful in ground tumbling, head balancing and heavy work, getting constant applause and making a strong close. One of the best acts of the kind we have ever played. KINETOGRAPH. Another Pathe film of current events, very interesting and holding the crowd in well. GEN. REMARKS. This is one ripping show that played off in a perfect manner and pleased everybody. It looks like capacity business for the balance of the week. CUTS WENTWORTH, VESTA Discontinue throwing football into audience. GORDON BROS. Discontinue knocking punching bag into audience.
