163 C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JAN. 13, 1913. BORANI & NEVARO. 13 min. F.S. Man woman and dog. Much the same act as presented here before, doing good ground tumbling work introducing considerable comedy, the dog being particularly well trained and getting plenty of laughter and applause for his funny stunts. Makes a good opener. TOONEY & NORMAN. 17 min. in one. All right for an early spot. Their songs and patter were a little slow getting the audience, but they won out all right. Miss Tooney is a pretty young woman and uses three changes of costume. Good line of nonsense and finished with an amusing eccentric dance. FIVE MELODY MAIDS & WILL J. WARD. 22 min. F.S. A lively musical act patterned somewhat after the "Pianophiends," using five pianos, all the young ladies making a good appearance in becoming costumes, all of them expert musicians. Each number got big applause. Good selection of songs by Mr. Ward and altogether the act pleased very well indeed. The finish was strong. CORELLI & GILLETTE. 12 min. in one. These boys have a novel act interspersing some excellent ground tumbling with lots of original humor. Plenty of laughter and applause, holding this spot in good shape. Made a fine close. ETHEL BARRYMORE & CO. "The Twelve Pound Look." 29 min. F.S. This is a typical Barrie sketch of English life - the story of an over-bearing Britisher who regards his own personal success above everything in the world and sacrifices everybody and everything to it. Miss Barrymore's part of the wife who abandons the boor is delightfully played and she gets the most out of every one of the bright lines. Held the interest of an immense house right up to the unexpected finish. Big advance applause and a big closing hand. This being Miss Barrymore's home town, of course, we look for a continuance of phenomenal business. BELLE BLANCHE. 13 min. in one. Miss Blanche received an advance hand, as she is well and favorably known here, making a very pretty appearance and introducing some of her former material, both in songs and imitations, and some that were new. Held this spot in fine shape, making a good close and compelled to give a little recitation as an encore. AVON COMEDY FOUR. 18 min. F.S., close in one. These boys are favorites here and always go big. Today was no exception and their material to a large extent new and all of it very funny. Compelled to give two encores. TWO JONLEYS. 9 min. F.S. This is a great balancing act and no mistake. Some of their feats were positively thrilling. Splendid applause after each feat and a rousing big finish. KINETOGRAPH. "The Bachelor's Honeymoon" and "Tom Thumb." Very interesting comedy films. GENERAL REMARKS. This show plays off immensely to a jammed house - thoroughly clean, bright and wholesome entertainment all the way through. With Miss Barrymore, this excellent bill should give us a capacity business on the week.
