B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of Feb. 10th, 1913 Cleveland, Ohio THE FLYING MARTINS - - 5 minutes, special black drop in three. One of the best opening acts we have had and the same hit as on previous appearances. (St. Louis) LYDELL & BUTTERWORTH - - "The Light Brown Girl and the Funny Dancer". 15 minutes in one. A very good act. The man is a splendid dancer, having the movements, steps and peculiarities of Bert Williams. He is also a very good comedian and the act went over at both shows nicely. (Open) MEIN LIEBCHEN - - 25 minutes, library interior. 3 men and 2 women. A purely conversational sketch which lacks the heart interest and punch. There's a gossip and an innocent little girl, a man whom the gossip says is bad, being the same man the good little girl loves. Then there's the father and uncle of the good little girl who are pinochle friends, which fact is brought to light through a game of pinochle in view of the audience. However, the lines are not dazzling, the comedy is rather slow, and the sketch in its entirety is not a big feature. (Toledo) HARRY ATKINSON - - "The Australian Orpheus". 12 minutes in one. Atkinson imitates musical instruments. With some of these imitations it requires considerable imagination on the part of the audience to appreciate his work, but as a whole the act went over well. (Dayton) VALERIE BERGERE & CO - - "His Japanese Wife". 30 minutes, special set. Miss Bergere is in form and regardless of the fact that a trained nurse greets her exits from the stage and watches her temperature while dressing, she is more appealing than ever before in this playlet. Her company is capable in every way and work with unusual enthusiasm. "His Japanese Wife" made a decided hit at both performances yesterday and is a real headline act. (Cincinnati) HUFFORD & CHAIN - - "The Cullud Parson and the Minstrel". 15 minutes in one. One man works in blackface the other straight. The act gets many laughs, due to the efforts of the man in blackface who preaches an unusually funny sermon. (Columbus) W. C. FIELDS - - "The Silent Humorist" 23 minutes in 4, special set. Just as funny as ever. Fields is a scream and has about the same routine of tricks that he has always offered. Carries an assistant and closes in one. (Atlanta) THE WIRTH FAMILY - - 11 minutes F.S. This act introduces May Wirth a real equestrian, and carries a lot of excess baggage as far as relatives are concerned. May Wirth is clever and does some sensational riding tricks. Her act is marred by the sad acting of a very bad clown (relative) and the bare back dancing of a girl, who has an "invisible" wire attached to her which can be seen half a mile away (also a relative) and a ring master who can't crack a whip (also relative) Without this trio of hangers-on the act will go bigger than at present.
