PHILADELPHIA SHOW MAY 20th, 1912 C.E. BARNS BERTON & STRYKER 9 min. F.S. Some of the most expert work on skates that we have ever had. Seems if there was nothing impossible for them to do on the rollers. The girl's work is very clever and graceful, but the six footer is a marvel. Introduced considerable comedy into the act, and on the whole it makes a splendid opener. Applause throughout and closed very well. WILSON & WILSON 16 min in one. A clever pair who hold this spot in good shape. The girl in two changes of costume makes a pleasing appearance and sings fairly well. The Man appears first as a messenger boy and afterwards as a rustic violinst. His comedy is good and his eccentric violin work got a strong hand. Closed with some new and good ragtime material. LLOYD & WHITEHOUSE 13 min F.S. close in one. These people took the place of FRANKLYN ARDELL & CO. who cancelled. Both have excellent voices, and burlesque Grand Opera and character songs. The man is very funny at the piano, and in fact both got laughter and applause for everything they said and did. Closed in one very strong with the burlesque "LUCIA" which was especially good. GRACE HAZARD 17 min in one. Well known on the circuit. Has a good though not a strong voice and makes her various changes in full view of the audience. Closed with a drum and bag-pipe number with excellent effect. THE VASSAR GIRLS 27 min Opens F.S. goes to one than back to F.S. and closes in one. Ten pretty girls. An elaborate stage setting beginning with the Japanese and ending with a typical French garden scene. Their selections were partly new and partly of the popular order, including extracts from the Operas. They play wood-wind and brass instruments, and do so mighty well. Their costumes are very fetching and in fact the whole act is gotten up on good showman-like lines. The cornet as well as the vocal solist made an individual hit. Were obliged to give two encores and closed to a strong hand. "MEIN LIEBCHEN" 22 min F.S. Has been described from elsewhere and although there are better "HOBART" sketches than this, nevertheless it is full of this typical humor. The situation held the audience up to the finish. Closed very well. PALACE FOUR QUARTETTE 11 min in one. A Male vocal four on the regulation lines, with some new selections and some that were familiar. The Pianoist is good and introduced a little comedy. The solo work is acceptable but nothing remarkable. Just about held this hard spot and closed fairly well. REDFORD & WINCHESTER 17 min F.S. The familiar comedy juggling act that always goes big anywhere and always will, as it is full of skilful work, and the comedy surprises keep the audience in roars of laughter throughout. Makes a ripping closer. Finished very strong. KINETOGRAPH "BUSTERS NIGHTMARE" One of the best comedy films that we have ever had. It is particularly pleasing to the children. GENERAL REMARKS. This show played off very well with the substitution of Lloyd and Whitehouse for Franklyn Ardell & Co., who were not missed. The running form of this show was all right, and everybody seemed pleased and it is a typical variety entertainment and should draw good business.
