[printed letterhead on sheet pasted in:] SCENIC TEMPLE Vaudeville and Motion Pictures EXEC OFFICE: UNION THEATRE UNION STREET PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND MAIN STREET PHONE PAWTUCKET 356 Pawtucket, R.I., [handwritten at u.r. of sheet pasted in:] 83 [stamped at u.r. of page:] 83 Report on acts playing The Scenic Temple, week of January 5, 1914 Seen and reported by C. L. McNally. Three English Girls 14 minutes in full stage. Singing and acrobatic dancing, using high kicking. Good dancers, and went fair at matinee and also at night. Mae Melville. 14 minutes in one. Four character songs-- no changes Went good, matinee and night. Tooney and Norman Man and woman Billed "Just Nonsense", and that is what it is. Also singing, and a good eccentric dance by the man, later assisted by the woman in comedy male attire. Was a hit, at matinee, and also at night. 15 minutes in one. Hickman Bros. and Company. Two men, and one woman. Special divided set-- exterior and interior of a house. A comedy sketch that causes many laughs, but fails to receive a hand at the finish. They use some trick scenery, viz., a couch that when a man lies on it, the back, which is a part of the outside wall of the "house" springs out, and deposits the man on a bench against the side of the house on the outside. This is quite a novelty, and is a good laugh-getter. 15 minutes in full stage. January 8, 9, and 10, reported by C. L. McNally. The Von Schillacks Man and woman. Singing by woman, and violin-playing by the man. Also piano-playing by the woman. 12 minutes. Went good. Irene Timmons and Co. Two men, besides Irene Timmons. Center door fancy in full stage. Dramatic sketch "New Stuff." Plot and acting are good, but the act was only fairly received, at night, and in fact went poor at the matinee. 20 minutes The Peers Two men Comedy bar act Both the men work comedy. Nine minutes-- Went fair. Note:-- This act would be all right if we had not already played so many acts using the same comedy, and the same material in general, as the tricks done are in themselves good. Edith and Eddie Adair. Man and woman 12 minutes in olio in one. Conversation, singing, and talking. Man is a fair singer, and the woman makes one change. Use the telephone as a finish. This is a poor act, and it went poor at all shows.
