REPORT ON B. F. KEITH'S THEATRE - BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS. Week of January 12, - 1914 (Robert G. Larsen) VANDINOFF & LOUIE. 8 minutes in two. Palace Drop. Man and woman painting oil pictures on glass. Work is exceptionally good, the last picture being painted while the mat is revolving rapidly. An excellent opener. BRITT WOOD. 9 minutes in one. Street. A clever young "Rube" comedian, in songs and talk. The best feature of his act is the work with the harmonica. A decided hit at both performances. ELEANOR BALDWIN CASS and EIGHT FENCING GIRLS. 11 minutes f. s. Palace. Mrs. Cass is the champion lady fencer of America, and has taught the "400" how to handle the foils. She is assisted by eight attractive and lively girls. They open with an athletic drill, fence with one another, and close with series of bouts between Mrs. Cass and the various girls. Work is fast and held the interest every minute. A good novelty. CLEO GASCOIGNE. 11 minutes in one. O. P. Drapery. A diminutive Frenchwoman of rather pleasing personality, who sang four numbers. She has a splendid voice, and went over in very good shape at both performances. CHARLES PRELLE'S MINIATURE CIRCUS. 11 minutes f. s. Special circus amphitheatre. A troupe of trained dogs tricked out as men, horses and elephants, worked by a ventriloquist. The result is an animal act that is quite novelty, with some good comedy. Closed strong with the holdup of the Overland mail by the cowboys and Indians. An animal act that is out of the ordinary run and fits well into the middle of the bill. STEPP GOODRICH & KING. 19 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Pianist, banjoist and singing comedian. These boys have lots of ginger and are on the go every minute they are on the stage. A good rathskeller act that went over big at both performances to-day. JOSEPH JEFFERSON and CO. 20 minutes f. s. C. D. F. "Poor Old Jim." This is a "souse" sketch dealing with the reformation of a clubman, whose wife and physician pretend he is dead. When Hubby wakes up he thinks he is a ghost, and while in this condition is induced to sign the pledge. A rather odd comedy, well played, with numerous bright lines and situations. Went extremely well at both performances, getting many laughs. BERT WILLIAMS. 31 minutes in one Special plush drop. there is no guestion but that Bert Williams is a "draw" in Boston. He received a big reception to-day kept the audience laughing and applauding for half-an-hour, and might have stayed longer if he wanted to. Closed very big. GREAT BALTON TROUPE. 10 minutes f. s. Garden. man and three exceptionally pretty girls in a Roman ring act. Nothing startling in their routine but the girls look nice and do a number of stunts in good shape. An acceptable closer.
