92 Washington Show, week of Jan. 12, 1914. R. S. Robbins. Karl [Gress?] 11 minutes f. s. Paints two pretty pictures in all - one a transparency. Dresses in garb of Paris Latin-Quarter artist. Novel effects to pictures at finish. Gets a fairly good hand. DeLeon & Davies. 21 minutes in one. Man and Woman. Modern clothes. Singing, talking and dancing neatly done. One song "I Wonder How They Propose, etc." especially good. Goes good. Dorothy De Shelle & Co. 19 minutes f. s. In playlet "Crookology." Fairly humorous with surprise finish, the house crook finding himself fleeced by his supposed simple female agent. Miss De Shelle pretty good, support only fair. The set seemed to please. Sallie Fisher. 18 minutes in one. Special plush drop. Splendid songs, excellent voice and charming personality -- wears three beautiful costumes. A delightful act, if a little disappointing. Very well applauded. Hanlen & Clifton. 7 minutes f. s. Expert acrobats, work in modern clothes and in drawing room set. Finish with novel artistic quiet effect, one man playing the piano, the other reclining before fire-place. Goes very well. Intermission. Consul and "Lady Betty." 25 minutes f. s. Wonderful trained simians. "Lady Betty" some cute soubrette and contrast to the dignified "Consul" and keeps the audience convulsed with her hilarious by-play. The animals are adept on roller-skates and bicycles, walk the rope, smoke cigarettes, play at musical instruments and otherwise act like humans. A great laughing hit -- every9one seems to be talking about them. Poster Ball and Ford West. 19 minutes in one. In "Since the Days of '61" a character study. Mr. Ball's delineation of the Civil War veteran is very clever and funny and his make-up is perfect. This act a pronounced hit getting big laughs and a big hand at the finish. Neptune's Garden. 17 minutes f. s. This extraordinary scenic, aquatic, spectacle and illusion, and pantomime, with the interpolated "La Dance Demontie" is a sensation here this week. Everyone waits and is pleased. Gets a good hand at finish. Pathe Weekly. 12 minutes. exceptionally good pictures.
