Report on PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of January 26, 1914. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. While the show didn't play with the snap that last week's bill did, nevertheless, it is quite good, and I think, was generally liked; nothing bad, but one or two of the acts didn't show any great strength. CONWAY & LELAND Old time monopede act. I believe one of the men is new. Same act that they did 20 years ago, but was somewhat new to most of the audience and got over in fair style. 11 Min. F. S. The VERIGRAPH Pictures showing depth as through a stereoscope; worked by special pictures taken, and lorgnettes furnished by the Coco-Cola Company distributed to the audience; to my mind a very interesting affair. I think, because of the lack of interesting subjects, that the act was strung out a little too long; with cutting down, I believe it will create decided interest. They did 13 Min. at the matinee; will cut it down to about 10 tonight. With more interesting pictures it should be an exceptionally good feature. Biograph sheet. GUERRA & CARMEN Man and woman, violinist and harpist. While these people are pretty good, they were something of a disappointment to me, as I had been led to expect tremendous things from them. Following some of the great violinists that we have had in this house, Mr. Guerra doesn't shine very brilliantly and in my opinion, the work of the lady at the harp is more interesting than his. The act did very nicely in this spot; no one need to be afraid to play it, if they don't depend upon it for too much. 17 Min. in 1 BABY HELEN This was one of the big clean-ups of the show. She is the most remarkable child I ever saw. To say that she made a hit, would be putting it very mildly. 12 Min. in One. STONE & KALISZ & CO. In their new act, "Mon Desir?" Stone & Kalisz are assisted by three other actors, a musical director, and property man. They have their own setting, which is quite elaborate, and in good taste. The audience enjoyed the entire production and performance. 30 Min. F. S. MILT COLLINS Another big hit, second to that of Baby Helen. 15 Min. in One. HOWARD & MC CANE Well-known singers, who scored first rate, although they had rather hard sledding with their talking. They went over best towards the finish with their old songs and Miss McCane's changes of costume. 25 Min. Open F. S. Close in One. 3 ALEX Athletes and iron-jaw performers. Some new feats that are presented in rather a new manner; some of their tricks very unusual. A good act. 8 Min. F. S. MOTION PICTURES O. K.
