REPORT COLUMBUS SHOW, WEEK FEB. 16..W.W. Prosser. ERNIE & ERNIE: "Monopede and German Girl". One-legged man hand balancer, dancer and acrobat and acrobatic young woman who is very pretty. This is a corking act and made the best opener we have had for some time. All good tricks, excellently presented. Strong finish. Open in 1, conservatory in 2, 12 minutes. (Toledo) WALLACE GALVIN: Good line of coin and card palming, Chinese Ring Mystery &c. Held attention throughout, finishing moderately strong. Olio in 1, 10 minutes. (Buffalo) HAYWOOD STAFFORD CO: Man and woman in a "semi-classic" skit, entitled, "The Devil Outwitted". The entire story is told in rhyme. Plenty of good lines and an interesting story. This act is novel in idea, and did quite well. Finished moderately strong. Light Fancy in 3, 16 minutes. (Indianapolis) MORRIS & ALLEN: Two men, "Comedians With The Pipes" in stereotyped sort of offering consisting of songs and talk. Nothing new, and only fairly interesting. Just got by and that was all. No finish to speak of Street in 1, 14 minutes. (Akron and Youngstown) VERIGRAPH: This is billed as an "Optical Sensation" but did not prove so, in fact. A series of sterioptican views are thrown on the Picture Drop which are viewed by the audience through special Lorgnettes which are provided by the act. The fundamental principle is the "third dimension" or depth. This is plainly visible to the careful observer and a good percentage seemed to appreciate the fact. On the other hand, a great many seemed to consider the offering not worth while and paid little attention to it. With the discerning ones it proved successful, and with the other element, a frost. A picture of McKinley, for a finish, gained a round of applause. It is one of those novelties concerning which it is difficult to predict the outcome. Picture sheet in 1, 16 minutes. (Pittsburgh) LASKY'S "CLOWNLAND": Company of young men and women in a Musical fantasy in black and white. Well dressed and staged, with sufficient life to satisfy. Generally went just fair, though in a few spots, quite well. It at least looks big and may turn out a card for us. Finished fairly strong. Special in 5, 16 minutes. (Montreal) WILL ROGERS: "The Wizard of The Lasso". By all odds the hit of the show and the real hit of the entire bill. His success was genuine and spontaneous throughout. He introduced an extemporaneous extra added feature by lassoing Fred Stone who occupied a front box, dragging him on the stage and compelling him to do his (Stone's) rope specialty. This was a riot for both Stone and Rogers. They both finished strong, taking many bows. Landscape in 1 1/2 21 minutes. (Cincinnati) ROMEO, THE GREAT: A finely trained chimpanzee who does about everything one could expect from an animal and considerably more than the ordinary human being can successfully get away with. Applause at various points and a strong finish. Fancy in 2, olio in 1, Garden in 5, 20 minutes. (Cincinnati) MOVING PICTURE: Edison Comedy. O.K.
