B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of April 27, 1914 Cleveland, Ohio It's "Festival Week" this week. Cleveland changes to Eastern standard time on Thursday at midnight and so we have a unusually long show, which starts early and finishes late, so that our patrons will not become confused with the changing of the time. The show as a whole is a dandy, consisting of the standard well known acts that need little criticism, because most of them are sure fire in every town. Monday's matinee was balled up because of that jump from Milwaukee which is a hoodoo for me here. Dixey came from Milwaukee. Miss Alexander had to go out and buy a shirtwaist and a walking skirt and Mr. Logan went on in his street clothes. The five coons also went on in theirs, but I didn't object to that because it was funny. The show got straightened out for Monday night and it looks like a big week. PREVOST & BROWN - - 2 men. Garden in 4. 10 minutes. Acrobatic team. Very good. (Cincinnati) MULLEN & COOGAN - - 2 men. Palace in one. 14 minutes. Song patter and dancing. Very good finish. (Boston) BEAUMONT & ARNOLD - - Man and woman. Open C.D.F. in 4. Close in one. 17 minutes. A little bit of comedy, opera, dancing and some patter. Good (Hamilton) E. TENNYSON NEELY - - Mr. Neely was at one time a Chicago publisher and later went to Mexico where he had interests. He recently returned and brought with him several photographs that he took of the rebels in action. There are about 250 views in all. Mr. Neely's lecture is quite interesting and was punctuated with sincere applause. Special screen drop in 3. 20 minutes. (Columbus) FREDRIKA SLEMONS & CO - - 2 men. 2 women. C.D.F. in 4. 22 minutes. Sketch entitled "Liz" which depicts East side life in New York. A pleasing act. (Detroit) THE THREE ELLISONS - - 2 men. 1 woman. Open Special in 2. Close special in 4. 18 minutes. A very good musical offering. Their selections were liberally applauded. (Syracuse) HENRY E. DIXEY - - Palace in 1. 15 minutes. Same act he presented here last year. His name is still a drawing card in Cleveland. Was liberally applauded. (New York) LOUISE ALEXANDER & CLIVE LOGAN - - Garden in 4. 17 minutes. These people carry with them an orchestra of five colored musicians. The coon who plays the cymbal, drums and seventeen other things is a comedian. In the most innocent manner imaginable he looks up at the trees painted on the scenery, watches the border lights, looks up into the fly gallery and the expression on his face when he rolls his eyes is about as funny as anything we have had in the theatre this season. The audience laughed continuously throughout the dancing. Miss Alexander and Mr. Logan are probably the best exponents of the several kinds of tangoes that we have had in this theatre and if we forget the advertising, I think they are just as good as the Castles. All of their numbers were tremendously applauded. (Boston) A TELEPHONE TANGLE - - 4 women. 3 men. Special drop in 3. 17 minutes. A satire on modern telephone troubles arising from the errors of the exchange girl in making connections. Six interiors in miniature are shown on the stage alternately by lighting up the apartments, and in the course of the act they are talking to the wrong party most of the time. It's good for a novelty. Miss Dorothy Regel as the exchange girl is very clever. (Cincinnati) BELLE BLANCHE - - - Open Palace in 1, Closes Garden in 3. 10 minutes. I think if anything this young lady has improved., and our audience here liked her very much and her work was very liberally applauded. (Buffalo)
