239 R. S. Robbins WASHINGTON SHOW April 27, 1914 WENTWORTH & VESTA 9 min. in 2. (Can work in one) Two men doing unique gymnastics assisted by a little dog "Teddy" who looks nothing, but delivers big. The act generally pleased and is a very satisfactory opener. GENEVIEVE WARNER assisted by KARLA 15 min. in one. Plush drop. Miss Warner sings and plays the harp skillfully, is also a very attractive woman. Makes three changes and all gowns are beautiful. Karla is an attractive and competent lady violinist, accompanying Miss Warner in a harp and violin duet, and rendering a solo effectively. This act was very pleasing to our audiences, all the numbers receiving generous applause. SAMMY BURNS AND ALICE FULTON 14 min. F.S. Plush cyclorama curtain. High class acrobatic dancing set. Good clothes and costumes. Their 5th and last number to classical music, especially pleasing, winning a storm of applause. The other numbers received satisfactory recognition. CLAUDE GOLDEN 19 min. in one. Puzzling tricks demonstrated with playing cards. His novel entrance from the audience and the unusual condition of the spectator showing up the performer afforded some good comedy. The act got many laughs and a big hand at the finish. CLAUDE GILLINGWATER & EDITH LYLE "WIVES OF THE RICH" A gripping on act melodrama depicting why wives leave home - that is rich men's wives. The story happens in a dream and the awakening gives a relieving surprise to the audience and a comedy finish to the act. The act is very well acted and scores a big hit, and the general report is that it is great. 35 min. F.S. INTERMISSION JOHNNIE RYANS & LEILA MCINTRYE 19 min. Open in one, close F.S. Comedy dialogue, recitations songs and dances. These artists kept the audience in continuous good humor and scored heavily with their dances. The act was a hit. FANNY BRICE 17 min. in one. Clever buffoonery, comedy songs, and personality plus. Scoring as big a hit, if not the biggest of any single act here this season, and the big hit of this great show. GRUBER'S ANIMALS 10 min. F.S. An Elephant, Horse, Pony and Dog doing remarkable feats. The performance of the elephant is wonderful. The costumes of the trainers and the well groomed animals make a pretty spectacle. This is one of the best animal acts of the season and scores heavily. Pathe Weekly A very good reel GENERAL REMARKS A bill of headliners helping greatly to offset the natural disinclination to attend indoor entertainment owing to a touch of warm weather.
