H. T. JORDAN. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 28, 1914. HEARST-SELIG PICTURES. 14 min. Several very good war pictures furnished an interesting feature and were given liberal amount of attention. FRED RENELLO & SISTER. 13 min. F.S. Cycling act with a rather showy routine of fancy and trick riding on low and high apparatus with a somersault trick for a finish. The riding is good. The girl dresses in a tight fitting union suit making a rather daring display. Act lacks speed. MARY DORR. 12 min. in One. Sang four character songs and Rube impersonation in which she does a little talking. Made a fair impression in an early spot. JANE CONNELLY & CO. "A Strong Cup of Tea." 20 min. F. S. A very good comedy sketch entirely different from their former offering, but full of crisp lines and dialogue that keeps the laughs going steadily. Action takes place in a very special setting. Sketch is excellently played by the three members of the cast which lifts it right up in the front rank. It was well received all through and finished strong. MELVILLE & HIGGINS. 19 min. With the same line of cross-fire comedy talk, a couple of songs and a bit of eccentric dancing by Higgins interspersed with side remarks by the girl. this act proved as big a laugh-winner as ever. All their material is splendid handled and at the finish they were rewarded with liberal applause. PERIERA SEXTETTE. 22 min. F. S. This is a musical act of the highest type, appealing especially to the lovers of the more classical selections. Their offering consists of violin and cello solos and sextette numbers all played in a manner which denotes that each member is an accomplished musician. The musical numbers have been carefully selected and were greeted with the warmest approval. EDWIN GEORGE. 18 min. in One. Undoubtedly a juggler of skill and a comedian who gets laughs through the manner of his handling quiet humor. He scored solidly with both, handling of tricks and his impromptu remarks. During his act and at the finish he won solid bursts of applause. VALESKA SURATT & CO. 28 min. F. S: This act booked in at short notice to replace Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Castle owing to the latter's illness, was a solid hit. The act differs only from that offered by Miss Suratt on her last visit in that she is supported by a new company. The routine is the same, consisting of songs and dances with Miss Suratt usually the principal, but receiving ample assistance from the members of her company, the dance by Honey & Honey scoring individual success. Miss Suratt as usual displayed a number of striking costume creations. "The Moth and the Flame" is a new addition to the act danced by Miss Suratt and Melvin Stokes is a very beautiful and effective number. Scored an unmistakable hit, several bows being taken at the finish. SAM & KITTY MORTON. 17 min. in One. These favorites had no trouble holding down next to the closing spot with their act "Back to Where They Started." Opening with comedy talk they went into their old style song and dance and were a hit all the way. ROEDER'S INVENTION. 9 min. F.S. This is a decided novelty in the equilibristic line. Routine shown by two men and two women who are wonderfully clever gymnasts. All their tricks are showy, well handled and the setting is unusually attractive. They finish with one man carrying his three partners and two stage hands off the stage. Act was very well received in the closing spot.
